Most of our taxpayers will have an
opportunity to pay double taxes this
ear. The new law requires all taxes
heretofore due to be paid in the year
in which they are levied, making them
collectable by legal process on the first
day of January of the succeeding year.
This law will cause less confusion than
the old one, and is an improve
ment. On Thursday morning of last week
! little Louis, son of County Clerk J. P.
Ikiyha, accidentally got a nickel five
cent piece in his throat, where it
lodged and almost suffocated the little
fellow before it was removed. Mr.
Bnyha, "thinking the child would be
past help before medical assistance
could be called, took the ca-e in baud,
'and with considerable dithculty re
moved tho coin from his throat. This
should be a warning to parents whoso
children are accustomed to placing
coin, pins, or other articles of like na
ture in their muutlis.
