From Mr. McKinney, residing on
Walnut creek, we learn of a seriou
accident that occurred there Tuesday
t week. Hiram Holdredgc went
n a skiff near the mouth of Wnl-
reck for the purpose of shooting
ducks, and his wife accompanied him.
Hiram left his wife in the skin"
at the mouth of the creek and went
through the brush to lo"k for duck,
which he discovered before he had
proceeded far, and fired at them with
his rifle. Mrs. Holdrcdgn, it seems,
had moved from where her husband
left her with the skiff, and unfortu
nately happened to be in range of thn
gun when it was discharged, and the
lull struck her in the breast inflicting
a feverc though not necessarily fatal
wound. She was taken home and a
doctor summoned, who etxractcd the
ball from the wound and left the pa
tient in as comfortable shape as could
be expected.
The culture of small fruit should be
more generally practiced by our far
mers, the country over, than it now is.
Out of a love for the possession of such
wholesome fruits, from the health
their enjoyment brings and the profit
which may bo realized therefrom, we
hope that as broad plans as circum
stances will permit, will be carried out
in practice this spring. It does not
require much room for a strawberry
bed large enough to supply delicious
food from early to late. Have a few
bushes of the best raspberries of the
black-cap varieties, and some of the
approved black berries, trained and
pruned and kept in proper shape.
Currant bushes set here and there.
and neatly trimmed to single stems,
will not take up much room and will
furnish much p.ood fruit. But no fruit
garden is complete without the grape.
Trim up a few vines, where room is
scarce, on strong posts or on the rear
of some building. Ten or a dozen
vines may be cultivated on a thirty
ftxftlot.
The Chicago Comedy Co. will give an
entertainment at the court house on
Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights
of this week. The following wo clip
from the Concordia (Kans.) Illailr.
Tho Chicago Comedy fulfilled their
weeks engagement here last Saturday
evening. They arc about as good a
company as ever have appeared here
They have some excellent casts. Al
ice II. Clark is billed s their star, but
in our opinion Emic C. Graves far sur
passes her, although Miss Clarke is
good. Miss Carrie Plunket played her
perts admirablj-, though we should
judge she was quite young in tho pro
fession. Harry Plunket, for so young
a man,- can hardly be excelled. He
will make his mark. A. B. Crarj in
parts to which he is adapted, is im
mense. Mr. Graves is an excellent
manager, always presenting a spark
ling and interesting program. He
should receive a good support where
over he goes.

Mr. J. O. Chnmberlin, proprietor of
tho factory, stated the. object of the
meeting, which was to ascertain how
many cows would be fre.h by the
middle of April, and the elcjjoitJlfif
ficersT'he meeting was very largely
trtforided shoeing that the people o: In
avalo had an interest in home enter
prise. There being a number present
that wanted some information on the
subject, operially as to what the milk
would net per one hundred pounds to
the patrons. Mr. Chauibcrlin made
out the following card which he will
guarantee not to vary five cents per
hundred pounds one way or the other.

A cow that would give five quarts of
milk to a milking for six months with
cheee at fourteen cents per pound
would make $30.36. If she would give
it for nine months she would make
$51.54, besides tho patrons have tho
whey for feeding to calves and pig.
An article which appeared in the
Omaha Republican relative to the
Fremont creamery and cheese factory
was read, nhowing what farmers got for
milk delivered there and showing the
report of sonic of the patrons which
coroborates Mr. Chamberlin's state
ments. The next question was should
wc make a full cream chcee. Mr.
Chamberlain here stated that factories
all through the can that had until the
past few years made a full cream or
half skim cheese, were now making
full skim cheese and creamery butter,
tho result Ivciiig to overload the mar
ket with butter and skim cheese, while
a genuine cream would command a
good price and be eagerly taken in all
markets. It was decided to make a
genuine full cream cheese so that peo
ple that buy the Inavale cheese may
know they are getting a cream cheese
instead of a lard cheese.
The following executive committees
"were appointed. Thomas Vaughn, G.
W. Knight and E. Hunter.
Those present promised one hun
dred cows the 16th of April. When
wc take into consideration that those
who promised one hundred cows
April 16th, have from ten to forty
cows each and only from three to
eight frejh at that time, it insures a
big run of milk for tho factory, from
three hundred cows; certain. So April
16th the first cheese wiil be made at In
a'vale foctorv. More Axon.
