We hear that Hon. James F. Zedi
ker. of Frankilin is spoken of as First
Assistant clerk of the House, the com
ing session of the legislature Mr. Zed
iker has filled the position acceptably
a number of times, and the Chief
would like to hear of his appointment
to the same position again.
We earnestly rcccommend to both
the old and the young people through
out the county the organization of lit
erary or debating societies wherever
practicable. No better schools of gen
eral instruction exists anywhere. In
addition to the information obtained
on the questions of the day, social in
tercourse, and refined amusement, a
knowledge of parlimentory law is also
gained. Where one school district is
too small for a good society, several
ought to unite.

has, we are pleased to state, virtually

desires to secure its share of imigrants
from the cast and foreign countries.
During the past six or eight years we
have looked principally to the railroad
and especially to the B. Sc M., to se
cure our immigration for u nt their
expense, and any one at all famiiiar
with the subject knows that the B. it
M. has spared no expense to turn cm
ignition to our thriving young, state.
If wc would keep abreast the spirit of
the age, the incoming legislature
should take hold of this matter in ear
nest and perfect an immigration hill
that will meet all the requirements of
the case, ond effect an organization
that will do the most good at the lcat
possible expense. Tho only expense
the state need incur would lc that of a
secretary, and great care hould le ta
ken in the selection of this officpr.
An appropiation of abont 25,000
should be set apart for i migration pur
poses, and one of the mot reliable
agents of the B. &M. would be a prop
cr person to put in charge of the work.

that onr legislators will give us an em
igration board that will result in much
good to the foremost state of the great
northwest.
