in his life, and probably never will so
long as he can dcrivo greater benefits
by voting something else; a man who
last fall publicly in his paper advocat
ed the regular ticket, and who private
ly and deceitfully worked against that
ticket, and brought the little influence
ho possessed, to aid in defeating it.

friends when the report came in, that
the independent ticket had carried,

is the man who now calls upon the re
publican party to redress wrongs, the
enormity of which appear greater in
the diseased imagination of tho "ex

who seeks to impeach tho honesty and
integrity of five good citizens of our

Miss Fannj Parnell whose sudden
death last week, at Bordentown. N. J.,
aged 2G, will be lamented by Irish men
and women evervwhere, was a young
woman of decided genius, in whose
he irt love for Ireland was an all con
suming pa.sion. Henry George aplty
referred to her as the Joan of Arc of
the Land League movement. She had
all the French girl's enthusiasm cer
tainly, was no less self-denying, and,
though a good deal more reaonable,
was perhaps as conragons. Her poet
ry, though not of a high order in point
of imagination, is charged with fire,
often exhibits great tenderness, and at
all times breaths the spirit of the move
ment with which tho name of her
brother is so conspiciously identified.
It is 'tho literal truth to say that she
laid down her life for Ireland. Her vi
taiity was as completely exausted by
her labors with her pen and in the
work of orginization 113 though her
blood had been shed on the field of bat
tle. She was a delicately formed, re
