Randall as Speaker, had piloted the

political storm, but his past experience

it may bo expected, the legitimate
work of the session will be taken up

The reception given on the return of
our respected citizen, the heroic Dan

It is very doubtful if anything service
able to science can ever be learned
that will compensate for the loss of so
many heroic lives in the insane effort
of exploration among the icebergs of

naval ships, or to illustrate Le Due's
pet scheme of raising our own tea. It
is possible that the Xorth Pole, bag

centuries, is to be set at liberty by the
migrating of fleet of icebergs now
journeying southward in such num
bers and magnitude to seriously im
pede and endanger ocean navigation.
Should such an event happen, we
have enthusiastic Yankees would sue
outa writ of habeas corpus, and take
possession of the Xorth Pole, and
fasten to its topmost end our Nation's
flag, to float in the crisp, coed air of
that land of eternal silence.

After a little delay in considering
the matter we have concluded to give
occasionally notes about the ehoolt
in our own county. We also wish the
teachers to make report themselves
upon their work, their views upon
teaching, &c.
District Xo. r,3.
This district is three miles square.
31 iw Jennie Orr has charge of the
school this season. This is her first
school, but she is doing good work and
her pupils arc learning.
District Xo. G2.
This district is north of 33 and con
tains mx sections. Tho population is
chiefly Danish. Miss Lizzie Mcintosh
is at work here, and if she succeeds
according to the interest she inanifcts
in her work, hhe will teach a good
school. Our foreign population need
much pains taken with them that they
may thoroughly comprehend what
they arc trying to study.
District No. 31.
This district is third in the north
tier of districts from the north-west
corner of the county and is three
miles square. Mrs. Adda 1). Bartlett,
whose reputation as a teacher is made,
teaches here. The pupils show a good
interest in the school, and a promi-
nent feature of her school is the
amount of oral teaching she gives the
little ones, riiysiology is taught to the
smallest pupils with success.
District No. C9,
Is in the south-west corner of the
county and contains seven and one
half sections. II. L. Luce is teaching
his first school here with good success.
He is working cnmcstly.
District No. IS,
Is south of the river on the Kansas
line. It contains eight sections. Mi
Eva Munsell is presiding here nnd she
has quite a large" country school. The
pupils are mostly girls and j-oung
ladie who arc old enough to appre
ciate a good education. V think
they should give a little Cibre atten
tion to books and less to' one another
during school hours.
District No. 39.
This district is in the southern tier
of districts, shlT the school is conduc
ted by Miss Vina Stoddard. This is
her first schoof but she is doing good
work for the primary scholars. They
arc alf interested in t&lir work. This
district has a large amount of appa
ratus, aad a teacher has every facility
for making a good school

Bill, and contains six sections. Mlas
Aimtree Roth holds the sceptre ber
and she is trying to make a good 1
school. The attendance has been ir
regular, and the boose has not been
