In his new Catalogue of 1882, Mr.
Joseph Harris, Moreton Farm, Roch
ester, N. Y., says he grew six acres of
Christina Musk Melons last year for
seed, in a field adjoining the highway,
and that "hundreds of people for miles
around, can testify to the superior ex
cellence of this Tariety." He add:
''The Prolific Nutmeg is also a great
favorite on my farm and was exten
sively grown, but being farther from
the road is not so well known in this
neighborhood." When well grown
the Christina is one of the sweetest
and best varieties, and particularly
attractive on the table and judging
from the above, equally attractive in
the field.

Ed. Chief: The friends of Rev. O.
W. Hummel held a donation party at
the residence of H. H. Holdredge.
Esq., on Saturday evening the 7th
inst., at the request of his estimable
wife; who generously opened her
house for the occasion, and contribu
ted largely to the enjoyment of all.
A large number of persons, memlers
of the Methodist and Baptist church,
and others were present. The gather
ing commenced early in the evening,
and the time was pleasantly and profit
ably spent in conversation and sing
ing a number of popular religious
songs, and some more difficult pieces,
mostly led by J. D. Allbaugh, the best
singer on Walnut creek, hince Mr. R.
B. Fulton left us.
The entertainment was entirely of a
social character, with no speech
making and no efforts f display. At
about 9 o'clock the company began
to disperse, after having donated, as a
email token of their appreciation of
the faith full services of the Rev. Mr.
Hummel, money and other substan
tiate, to the amount of $17.00. Every
one was convinced that the Squire,
Mrs. Holdredge and their accomplish
ed daughter, know how to do good
and give others pleasure at the same
time.
We will just add, that a great revi
val of religiou is now in progresss on
Walnut creek, (at the stone school
house), conducted by Revi. Cheetham
and Hummel. Meetings have been
held day and night for two weeks and
will continue for an indefinite period.

Most of the old settlerf of the rounty
will proably remember the ao called
investigation of 1874. We have been
permitted to copy the report of the
investigating committee and publish
it in full for the atnuernent and edifi

It is a documeat without a date, but
bears on itd back the information that
it was "accepted June 29, 1874, and
filed for future reference and action."
But it was nerer filed and for reaaotis

as he persues the interesting docu
