This is a severe form of tvphoid
34 ' fluenjui, which L atllicting tho hordes
in many parts of the country. It is
5 called "pink-eye" from tho fact that
00 the external coat of tho eye has a
peculiar redness. Its cutties arc tin-
I known, and tho symptoms vary in
21 different localities. In many cases
the symptoms arc about as follows:
Slight watery or thin mucous dis
charges from the noitrils, eyes watury,
with matter collecting in the inner
corner; eye-lid !wol!en and puffy, tho
membrane on the inner tide presen
ting a yellowish ml color; appile in
most cases loit or suspended, dull np
pcar.mcc of the countenance; in sumo
cases mouth hot, with a corresponding
increase of temperatue of the skin; in
mora fa os there is a great prostration
of strength, a shown in the-t-taggering
55 gait, with a quick, Miiali and weak
pul?e; heart sometimes iolently agi
tated, and respiration increased.
Professor Jennings, a recoguicd
authority on the di'caaan of the
horse, recommend' the following
treatment:

tions as this disease does at the pres
ent time. In ordinary enscs tonics
and sfimulanls are called for. In
cases where the fever runs high give
the following: Tartrate of antimony
and nitrate of potaa, of each one
drachm; mix both together and give
night and morning. When the fever
is broken tonics and stimulants are
called for. The following may be two-1
in ordinary ca-es with good effect.
Gentian root, pulverized, and potasa,
each one ounce; Jamaica ginger, pul-
I vcrized; half an ounce; fenugreek or
ansie .-eed, pulverized, six drachms;
'mix and divide in four parts, give one
night and morning. When there is a
dropsical swelling of the leg, half an
ounce of sulphate of iron may be
added to the above with good effect.
If the lungs arc involved giye the fol
lowing: Aconite root in tincture, with
tincture of be ladonna, one part each,
water two parts, do-e, one teaspoonful
every three hours. If the liver is
affected, which may be known by the
yellow tinge of the mucous membrane,
dung small and hard, horse lying on
his side and occasionally looking at
his side a if in pain, with occasional
fits of uncasincs., give of Barbadocs
aloes three drachms, calomel and pul
verized digitalis of each half a drachm
7 j make into a ball with molx-ses. This
must not be repented. When there is
sorenessofthethro.it blisters should
be applied, the lly blister, made thin
with turpentine, answers a. good pur
pose. The animal should be placed
in a box stall, well litered with straw
and kept clean. As pure atmosphere
as possible is necessary, the contami
nated air of a badly ventilated stable
