We have received a copy" of the Nebraska Tree and Fruit grower, by C. S. Harrison of York, Neb., price 25 cents. It is really a valuable little work, containing much valuable infor mation in regard to tree culture in Nebraska, and is profusely illustra ted. We have received with the compli ments of J. F. Zediker, assistant clerk of the house of representatives, a neat little book called the Nebraska 'Manu al for 1SS1. It contains the constitu tion of the State of Nebraska, a list of all the county officers in the State and much other information that makes it valuable as a book of reference. Thanks. The following complimentary notice of our representative in the legislature we clip from the Alma Herald: Jopge Kaley, representative from Webster county, is making himself heard upon all questions which in terest the people in the present leg islature. He is fearless" and outspoken and may be ranked as the leading man of the lower house. We have had occasion heretofore to speak of the immense popularity of the Commercial Hotel, under the able management of its present popular landlord, Mr. Holleran, who formerly kept the Central House in Orleans. The business of the Commercial has steadily increased since its present proprietor took charge, until he finds it impossible to accommodate all vrho come. Mr. Holleran contemplates building a large hotel iu the spring, which plan we hopeic -will carry out, s, with the increasing business and 5 't rapid growth ofRed Cloud the present Iiotel iiocGiHGibtlio.is I11 soon be insufficient i2iaa-i-k-ii- We are in receipt of the- Baltimore t Ohio fti!rod Company's "lied Rock" which u evidently gotten up at a considerable cent of time and la bor. "Mr. Ka- Iey ha for wine year leen a member of the Normal School Board, an done of its most useful members, too. He ha. therefore a better opportunity of judg ing of the utter worthlessuess of the Institution at Peru." I have a better oppiuion of Judge Kaley, and the in stitution of whoxe board he i the "most useful member." Editors, and all other citizen-, in the matter of edu cation, should rise above sectional preference, attd foster that which is for the general good. J. Makinson. An exchange uttei the simple truth which every experinced editor will recognize a .-uch, when it says: Our experience as an editor ami pbli-her for several years has taught us that no matter how many good things you eay about people and the cntorpri.-e in which they are interested, you seldom hear from them words of approval; but if perchance, something should get in they do not like, you will be sure to have a storm of abuse that will forci bly remind you of an approaching 'tornado." In our earliest editorial days we were quite sensitive to ill founded blame. But we've grown out of that now, and in fact rather like it. We don't Mum being found fault with and say to one and all who get mad at us for nothing, (for we would not intentionally injure any) just get mad as often as you like stay mad as long as you like it is all the same to u. If however you should prefer (having as you think juM. cause of complaint against us) to come to us in a manly or womanly way, and say so, we will make amends, if to blame, just as sure as the sun shines or grass grows. But for the grum dumps we won't waver a hair. We weren't made to please ev erybody and have long since learned the fallacv of Irving to do so. MARRIED. Rover Da vik At the Commercial Hotel parlors, on Sun day evening Jan. 23d, by Judge Wil cox, Mr. Geo. A. Rover to Mi-s Hattie Davie, all of "Red Cloud, Nebraska. On Sunday evening a few invited gueMs assembled in the parlor of the Commercial to witness the ceremony wliich was performed by Judge Wil cox in his usual "short and sweet" style. After the ceremony and con gratulations were over the bride and groom and guests were ushered into the dining room where a sumptuous repast prepared by skilled hands awaited them, and which was enjoyed by all present. Mr. Holleran the pop ular landlord of the commercial and his otimahlc lady did everything to make the occasion an enjoyable one, which, assisted by their" fair daughter, Minnie, who entertained the company with some very fine selections well rendered on the piano, they were emi nently successful in doing. Mr. Rover is a young man for whom his acquaintances have great re spect. He is one of the most popular conductors on the B. fc "M. road, and though temporarly off duty it is his intention to resume his position at an early date, and with his blooming bride, settle down to the enjoyment of matrimonial life and make Red Cloud his permanent home. The Chief, in common with a host of other friends wishes the happy and worthy couple a pleasant and a prosperous voyage down the stream of life and u happy admittance bevond. to the pearly gates There is an effort on the part of a few enemies nf Afr TT?i1rtr In rro-ifi nn a number of;.,,, ,.,,. , , j a iLLUUg iiaiiiRi Mini iiuii; ill jiuiui;, by misconstruing his actions in the late Senatorial contest. They say that he proved traitor to his principal sup portersto those who were foremost in giving him a seat in the legislature that he never would have been elec ted to represent the county, but for having pledged himself to spport Pad dock, all this is false. Kaley, prior to his nomination and election and after ward, never led any one to suppose he was a Paddock man. One of the main causes of his election was that, instead of being Paddock, he was anti-Pad dock. And according to the wishes of a majority of his constituency, his ef forts, from the begining to the end, has been in behalf of Weaver. As to these self-named principal supporters, they were his supporters only after his election was assured, and then they were from a belief that in the end Mr. Kalev might, caused by a felling of obligation, support Paddock. But no, not for a moment did he forget the in terests of his county. Thus far Kaley's actions have been entirely honorable, and in accordance with the demand of a majority of those whom he repre sents. S. st Prof. Ticc's Almanac for 1881 is out.
