Talk ii)i the wolf hunt, nnd do not neglect to read the rules and regula tions published in another column. W. H. Reed who was convicted for making counterfeit money bus been sentenced to iinprisinmeut until Feb uary 1st. 1881. Last week we saw a number of wag on loads of wood on the streets. For reasons host known to ourself and to those who have promised us wood we burn corncobs. t JDrr-ifo"''' luKyrnp needs naming posters to proclaim its merits. One bottle satisfies the most skeptical that it does cure coughs and colds. Ask your Druggist for it. While our exchanges pretty generally throughout the state copy articles, hu morous and otherwise, from the Chief, we must say that they as a rule give the proper credit, which is all we ask. The Riverton Eagle has greatly im proved in appearance since Scott has gone and got married, and wc suppose it will impnne still more when the little Eaglets begin to put in an ap pearance. Mr. Samuel Richardson, one of the commit-ftioncrs of Cass Co., and an uncle to ye editor, called last Friday while we were absent from the office. We are sorry to have mised this op portunity to have had n chat with him. He had been up the valley on a busi ness trip. We acknowledge receipt of an invi tation to a social hop, at the court house on new year's eve, for which we return thanks. But .ve can't attend, not because we are no dancist but be cause it is incompatible with the in herent christian virtues and strictly religious principles which govern all our actions. The rules and regulations to govern the hunt may be found in another col umn. They should have appeared last week but were handed in too late for publication, however, wc think this week will do. We hardly know whether these rules &c, are intended as a burlesque or not, but will allow each reader the gratifying privilege of judging for himself. Last Saturday we dropped into the grocery store of W. B. Roby, and look ed through his large and select stock of goods. We saw the choicest lot of cigars, tobacco-, raisins Ac., that we have seen in a long while. One fea ture that attracted our attention was the excellent quality of the goods in slock. Mr. Roby evidently deals in fint class'goods, and his pricesare as' low as those of any house in town. Johny Keppler who lias been an em ploye in the CiltEE office for nearly a I vear. left last Tuesdnv for Iowa City, Iowa, where his parents reside. Johny is a good printer and a sober,. industrious and trustworthy young man and we w:is sorrv to see him go away, and we hope that wherever his lot may be cast, or whatever enterprise he ma v engage in, that he will meet with the suecejs that is ever tho reward of honesty industry and economy, which attributes are possessed in a marked degree by the subject of this sketch. 3CAWtiF.n WIXTON ZEISS. on the evening of Dec, 16th, 1880 at the res idence of the bride' mother, in this Citv of Red Cloud by the Kcv. The old mops-back who edits the! concern at the lower end of town wants! us to point out one particular screw irj the county machinery tbat it loose. Wei cheerfully comply, and call the afore said mo6s-backs attention to the fact that be charged th'w county at the rate of thirty dollars prr thoumxnd for summons for Co. Judge, and swore that the bill was "just and true and wholly unpaid," considering th)( summons, such as was furnished byl him costs 18.00 per thousand laic down here, we think that there is "screw loose somewhere." W! the County clerk gets a share f thi funds thus stolen from the people the county, we have no means of iind-j ing out. But this we do know; the lai requires that the clerk shall let thil contract for furnishing the count)! with stationery to the lowest bidder! and we know that he has disregarded the law notwithstanding the fact that! it has been published in the Chief on two different occasions and his atten tion called to it. And we know, further, that if the clerk would comply wim tne law ana Jet the contract to the lowest bidder, blanks that now- cost the county at the rate of $30.00 per thousund would be furnished for less than $12.00 per thousand. The summons, that arc furnishsd the coun ty arc but a small matter, they are but one little item, but as we was only askcu by the argus editor to point out one little screw that was looxc we will drop the mgttrfwthg present, with the assurance that we can point out other screws that arc loose if wc are called upon.
