The preliminaries of this great struggle are now over, both of the great contending armies are ready for the contest. Mothers, sisters, wives and sweet-hearts are praying as they prayed when the news came of a dead one loved and fallen whose life went out in the defense of country and dear ones. The busy hum of spindles, the noise and bu&tio of tens of thousands of prosperous industries cease for the time as a fitting witness of their exalted estimate of the freeman's highest privi lege, the easting of a ballot ith a free man's responsibility to country and to God. The dark spirits of error were all summoned as of old and marshalled into the ranks of the Confederacy. The ilood-gates of calumny, were opened, the boss liar of the Nation was at his best. Forgers, calumniators and the old devil himself all combined to urge the people of this great land to admit they made n mistake, in falling down and worshipping the true God during four years of bitter war, instead of paying homage to Jell.
