The latest telegraphic reports from Iiitlianapolis gives the following result: Two hundred and twenty-five voting precineti, 11 j per cent of the votes of the State, gives :i deinocntie vote of 32,041, and a Uepuhliean ote of 33,400, National vote 1,S4'J. Same lace in 1S70 gave the Democrat 30,937, Re publicans 30,028, National !j8. Net Republican gain?, I,8M. Cincinnati, Ohio. 2:30 A. m. The latest returns that will be re ceived at this office to-night are now in, 723 precincts and towns thus far heard from, the net Republican gain is 3,250, therp remains 1100 precincts and towns. The Democrats concced that not a man on their ticket will be elected. Wk notice that the JuniaUt Herald takes the trouble to charge that Mr. C. 11. Coon of Thayer county, the nominee of the republican of this dis trict for state-senator, has entered into a pledge to oppose the re-election of A. S. 1'uddock to the United States Congress. Where or how the Herald gained its information we know not, but wc take the liberty to say that the Herald is evidently misinformed or wilfully misrepresents the position of Mr. Coon on the senatorial question. From our acquaintance with Mr. Coon, although somewhat limited, wc are led to believe that he is not die man to bind himself with promises to any cinque or faction of the republican party, but will go to the legislature untrammclcd, and will endeavor on all occasions to carry out the wishes of the people who elect him. In New York the epidemic raging among horses is spreading to all the animals in the car and stae com panies' stables. It is estimated that nearly four thousand car hors, two thirds of the stage horses and Many of the animals in use by the large express companies are now MiUering from the disease, and a laige percentage of the horse", including some of the fastest horses in the country in private stables, are inflicted with the epizootic. The weather is unfavorable and it h feared that If -will cause the distemper: to take :i more serious form. No f.italities have been heard of yet, and thi is ac counted for by some with the opinion that the disease has not yet icached its height. Alarming symptom; have not been developed, "but there are many horsemen who argue that it is only a ouestion of a few days at most before the disease will get a" good hold and then the epidemic will equal that of 1S72 in its ravages. On the other hand mot of the superintendents of larger stables argue that the animals are afllicted with a very light form of the disease and no serious results need be anticipated, if proper remedies are promptly administerd. OUfi WASHINGTON LSTTS3. Washington, D. C, ) Oct. 9th, 1SS0. J EniTon Chief: Wade Hamilton at Cincinnati pledged northern democrats 138 solid votes for Hancock. This solid vote was under a slight embarras nient during the four years thev were enforcing their deniand for a eltan-e of government by the use of musket rv nnd canon. This vote was solid during that strug gle in all that represented states' rights, and Southern opinions. It has been a solid vote all these vears in its devotion to the "lost cause." It is ?olid now in.its determination to accomplish by the election of Hancock the pur poses that were temporarily postponed at Appomattox. The utterance of Hampton, Toombs. Hill, Blackhurn and other Southern orators, the drilling under the rebel Hag by students in military academics and in Fourth of July processions, are indications that this vote is likely to remain solid, for years to ccmc. There nre other evidence that show that these Southern leaders do not in tend to let the spirit of the rebellion die. A distinguished Southern clergv iiian says the whisper of a mother sh-dl be the future boom of canon in defence of the "lost cause." Within sight of the dome of the Capitol in Virginia and Maryland the children study the ., n.ii. .ucionaid, W1'? u,5vlIc Kv-, published bv W J. C. Dulany & Co., Baltimore. Iti, illustrated by pictures of Calhoun, Lee" Johnston, Davis, Jackson and otluW Calhoun, it says: "was a statesman and it Aas the aim of his life to strengthen the South, so that she might resisl the encroachments of her rights hv ffcn North." It teaches that Efncoln U sectional candidate, who joined to hi" political opinions the prejudices of his party, Ellsworth it pronounces "a famous rough and circusrider " tSeiSPSKJ1 ?f the Southern w uJe r 3 a: The deParture from the halls of Congress was an occasion of solemn leave taking. To impress the minds of scholars with the fctiprcme nrows? of Southern troops qua-tions are framed to draw forth answers' moat favorable to the Southern i-ide. Thoe questions relat ing to the battle of Gettysburg are ex amples of this method of teaching hi torv. "Question: How did the first collision terminate? An.: I'v the le- feat of the Feleralg. Question: Why J did not the Confecvrates occupv Ceme- terv Hill? Ans.: Ileeau.e the Kelerals were reinforced. Question: Why 1I Lee withdraw into Virginia" Ails.: Be cause his amunitiom failed." "The men in the South were peculiarly fitted by blood, climate, ia-titution ami education, to contend in defence of their rights with a world in arm.-." This HL-tory had passed through ten editions in lS7y. With this kind of education the young are receivinu in the olid South, the bourbon.- will be prepared to furninh from these young "ideas who will know how to shoot" solid vote or rebel bullets as the e:io may require. It U high lime for the noith to awake out of sleep. These are some oi" the democratic reason" why the North surrender the control of the (Jovernmcnt to the bour boiH. The Union men of the North oniuered the rebels, preserved the 1 nion and gave the country peace, which was bad for the democracy. They securetl the adoption of amend -. ments to the constitution giving free dom, franchise and civil rights to the slaves, measures that southern demo crats have .trampled under their feet. They pensioned Union soldiers, sailors, widows and orphans which much dU giisted southern democrats. They de stroyed "wild cat" money and legalized the best currency in the world based on Government bonds instead of the rotten securities of repudiating demo cratic states, millions saved by making currency of equal value everywhere, reduction of the annual intere-t $71.- 313,710.00, and the intere-t bearing! debt $02?.547, 194.00, maintaining the1 National credit, oimo-itiou to fiat' money, responsibility for resumption, fostering American industrie, collect ing Government money without steal ing it, protecting American laborers, making greenbacks worth 100 cents on the dollar, refusing to neiision Jell" 1 Davis, these are some of the heinous 1 oii'cnces of the Republican party which , are a stench in the nostrils of the bull dozing patriots who promise 13S solid votes for Hancock. His letter on the payment of South ern Claims, is n poor bid for Northern votes. With great guh he declares that the proposition to nay such claims is an "insult to the honor and intelli-; of our people." This soldier candidate is either gros-ly ignorant of facts or is trying to throw dut in the eyes of the voters of the loyal North. Seventy of his confederate friends, members of the Senate and House have already insulted the "honor and intelli- i gence 01 tne people ot the .North hy ouering uuis now on me t: ilender call-' ing lor payment ot more than a thousand million dollars ofsuch claims, Hancock asthetati end of the Southern confederacy will be helpless as a child. The rebels mean business in this mat ter, and it is their la-t chance. Will the voters of the North awake to the peril, that threatens to bankrupt the country, by payment of Southern war Claims and compensation for slaves. Phaks.
