This from tbe Culbertsoo Globe is a sample ot the criticise which Alger non S. gets in thu section and expresses completely the trouble with the honorable gentle bud: Although rather early ia the season yet there are quite a number of senatorial candidates in the field, and every day the "boom" of Algernon grows fainter as it wends its way to the "back seat," pre pared by tbe people, for the accommo dation of those who bare been weighed in the balance and found wanting. Tbe fact is, Nebraska made a great mistake when she seat Mr. Paddock to represent ber. He is not tbe man. He has not got vim sufficient to look after the inter eota of our growing joung cooisBonwealth. He occupies too much of his time in looking after a re-election, and too little in looking after the interests of the people. Nebraska has no iaterest in old fogies. She wants good men, live men, men who are fuN of starch, aad who will look after the interest of the whole people and not a particular clique. Mr. Pad dock and his friend' are net charged aaytbing for this opinion. But it is cor rect all the same. STATE TIACHSSS' ASSOCIATION. Tbe fourteenth annual meeting of the Nebraska State Teachers' Association will be held at Seward, oa Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, March 30th and 31st, and April 1st, 1SS0. In organising this new Baak () no large capital was required, only a pledge for the fatare, but as they enlarge their business and start new smaller Banks, it will eall for an increase of capital stock, Wa doubt not that there stock will be sufficient aad the benefit to our village of so many pros pective Baaks, can be appreciated by Superior ciutens. A farmer ia Colfax county has made $743.50 net grain in four years on an original investment of $120 in sheep. It is claimed that a party of railroad meu discovered a vein of coal a foot thick near Nebraska City, last week. The Ponca coal mine has now reached a depth of 400 feet. At 340 feet, a veia ot excellent cannel coal was discovered. It h rumored that surveyors ia the employ of the U. P, company are run ning a line south from Ps pillion through Otoe county. The ground hog does not progoosticite well in Nebraska. He saw his shadow on that particular day, aad has aeeu it every day sinoo. Tho B. & M surveyors on the route east from Red Cloud now make their headquarters at Fairbury and Are working east as the weather permits. The coal discovered iu Tbayer eouaty is of the best liguitic. The vein, as dis covered, is about twenty four inches thick, but it iucreises iu thickness as the miners dig dowa. Orleans gets 4,000 feet of side track, a large two-Mory depot, a turn tabic, a water tack, eoal sheds, and regular pas senger trains as soou as tbe depot can be completed. Last week 100,000 Columb:a river salmon, from tho hatchery of Uomaiue & Decker in Sarpy county, wore distributed in the vsrious streams crossed by the U. P. road, between Papillion and North Platte.
