The Red Cloud Hotel if receifing a

Several new buildings are in course
of construction, in the Mieurbs.
Richardson & Garber are doing a
good business in the cattle trade.
A part of the lumber far Ex-Gov.
Garber'a new residence, is on the ground.
Tho manufacture of the Reed Plew
has commenced in Red Cloud, on a small
scale.
Remember that we ean do any kind
of printing you wish, and do it neat and
cheap.
We have juat received a couple of
fonts ef largo wood type, for poster and
bill work.
The "Centennial Lone Star," print
ed at the Chief office, will be iasued
tomorrow.
Charley Kaley looks none the wcrpc

Buckeye atate.
Job work of ail kinds neatly and
cheaply executed at the Red Cloud Chief
printing office.
Old man Vest gathered togather his
effects and departed last Tuesday ftr
Colorado Springs.
0. 0. Case, attorney at law, who
has recently located here, is working up
quite a lucrative practice.
We notice some of the "heads of
families" were enjoying themselves the
other night "Iu a moral way."
We learn that diptheria has been
prevalent to an alarming'exlent, in the
vicinity of Mr. Wright's, on Indian
Creek.
RemenaLer that when you plant
jonr spring advertisements in the CniEF,
uine tenths of the people in tke county
read them.
We have been so crowded with job
work, the last week, that wo could not
give as much attention to the Chief as
we had ought.
Some idiot, writing in the Argus,
from Inavale, vrants to know if the Chief
used to publish the commissieners pro
ccedings in full.
Geo. Zeiss has planted a row of
shade trees in front ofhis hotel, which,
if they thrivo, will add much to the at
tractiveness of the place.
One of our entemrising carpenters
is looking forward to next fall as a pros
pective unhealthy season and. consequent
harvest for the manufacturer of coffins.
That little joke was a very harmless
one, and so long as the Argus man does
'nt incite the boys to anything woree
than that, there will be no harm done.
'1 he man who is too stingy to patron
ise home institution, and sends off for
every little article he needs, is mean
enough to herd swine on the graves of
his departed ancestors.
Mr. A. T. Reed, the furniture mas

end northern Kansas with furniture.
Teople don't go to Hastings any mors
for their furniture since Mr. Reed has
put in his stock here.
There has been rigged in front of
Sherer's store, an arrangement that was
at first supposed to be intended as a
place for public execution, but up to the
present time there has been nothing
"swung off" there except an elaborate
sign- board.
The two gentlemen bovines owned
end being reduced to a state of subjection
by our friend Lutz, had a slight misun
derstanding one day latt week, which
culminated in one of them getting so se
verely gored as to unfit him for labor for
some time te come.
The weather can be the most pleas
ant, or the most disagreeable, in this
part of the moral vineyard, of any place
we know of. Last Monday was another
ol those nasty disagreeable dusty windy
days that almost cause a man to wish
that he had died iu his cradle.
The season is appreacbitigwhen the
young man with his hair parted in the
middle, takes an innocent mallet in his
hand and proef eds , cautiously and care
fu'Jy, to hit a ball, and" see hew near he
can come to a friend's shins without hit
tin them. We refer to the manly game
of croquet.
A prairie fire of considerable dimea
eions raged on the prairies east of town
last Saturday afternoon. We learn that
Mr. Phelps, living on the farm of Capt.
Munsell, four miles east of town, lost all
hii hay, grain and stable by the fire, and
also had one of his horses so badly burn
ed that it had to be killed.

Or. W. Gray, a sort of one horse snide
job printer, holding forth at Omaha, is
floodins this country with circular, offer
ing to do job printing very cheap. The
truth is he feeds out samples of paper he
never duplicates and practices every and

known to tho trade. Any merchant or
business man who would patrouize such
an institution should starve to death, and
we are glad to say but very few of them
do take stock in anything of the kind.
