Mr. A. T. Reed, the furniture mas
is supplying the people of this county

There has been rigged in front of
Sherer's store, an arrangement that was
at first supposed to be intended as a
place for public execution, but up to the
present time there has been nothing
"swung off" there except an elaborate
sign- board.
The two gentlemen bovines owned
end being reduced to a state of subjection
by our friend Lutz, had a slight misun
derstanding one day latt week, which
culminated in one of them getting so se
verely gored as to unfit him for labor for
some time te come.
The weather can be the most pleas
ant, or the most disagreeable, in this
part of the moral vineyard, of any place
we know of. Last Monday was another
ol those nasty disagreeable dusty windy
days that almost cause a man to wish
that he had died iu his cradle.
The season is appreacbitigwhen the
young man with his hair parted in the
middle, takes an innocent mallet in his
hand and proef eds , cautiously and care
fu'Jy, to hit a ball, and" see hew near he
can come to a friend's shins without hit
tin them. We refer to the manly game
of croquet.
A prairie fire of considerable dimea
eions raged on the prairies east of town
last Saturday afternoon. We learn that
Mr. Phelps, living on the farm of Capt.
Munsell, four miles east of town, lost all
hii hay, grain and stable by the fire, and
also had one of his horses so badly burn
ed that it had to be killed.
Tho district Institute for the coun
ties of Webeter, Nuckolls, Franklin,
Kearney and Adams will be held at Red
Cloud, commencing on August 3d and
cojrtuiaing three weeks. Prof. Curry,
Principal of the State Normal School,
Mrs. Curry of the Normal School and
Prof. Thompson, State Sup.t. will have

floodins this country with circular, offer
ing to do job printing very cheap. The
truth is he feeds out samples of paper he
never duplicates and practices every and
all impositions en his patrons that is
known to tho trade. Any merchant or
business man who would patrouize such
an institution should starve to death, and
we are glad to say but very few of them
do take stock in anything of the kind.
