Omaha's Martyr.
Our dispatt lies this morning bring
the sorrowing news of the death of Mrs.
J. M. Clark who left Omaha a few days
ago to help the sick and living in .Mem
phis. At this hour (midnight) it i
impossible to pay a ju. tribute to her
unselfish devotion, her genuine hero
ism, her Christlike mission to suffering
men and women. She went where she
knew that death held high carnival,
where he spared neither age nor sex,
where the grave was more certain to be
her resting place, than on tint mot
fiercely contested battlelleld, but she
heard that the fever-stricken were ly
ing helpless, with none to give them a
cup of water, and she hesitated not a
moment, not amuscluouivered, no fear
blenched her face an she went forth to
tlare death in the very fortress of his
power, that she might help assuage thu
sufferings of dying men and women.
Let her name be added to thu honor
able list of thoe who died for their fel
lows. Omaha ought to pay some fit
ting public tribute to her memory.
Omaha Herald.
To work out our own contentment,
we should labor not so much to increase
our subtance, a to moderate our de-
sires.
