We received nice tqaaahes, kfct week couplel from Mr. of larne McCuue, A lumber yard is much needed in Red Jloud. Who u the lucky man to engage iu the business. Tons of hay is in stack right here in town, and if a stray upark bt fire bald happen to alite on one of the stacks, and a general conflagration be the result, we would not be surprised, We feci it our duty to warn all per suns living in town, to be careful about throwing out ashes with coals of fire in them, as the grass, is dry eumgh to burd, and a conflagration may be the result of Rich carelessness. We understand that the bridge over Crooked Cn.ek north of town is veiy niuch out of repair, this should be at tended to at once, as there is almost a continuous string of learns daily pasting through to the railroad. There may be some mistakes iu tho foregoing report, as theseuretarie'e writing could hatdily be called a legi ble hand, and we arc not mao'u of au interpreter Ed. Mapijc grovk farm ) WebsteT Co. Neb V Oct. 8th 1877. Mr. Ed. Having a few leisure mo ments I concluded to drop a few lines, everything is prospering very well as usual, the farmer.' are getting pretty well through with their work and all are making preparations for winter. Most of the threshing is done with good results, and the farmers are gen erally woll pleased with the returns f their labors aad are aM generally pretty well sati-fiej with Nebraska and land, And claims have raised from 211 to SO percent in the last three months aid acill oa the rise. principal ami jtfutfwthe raising of sorghum, aa.tbe patent syrup that we have been in tbe habit of cottsojoing. has become so adulterated that it is alaott uaafe to use it, and therefore every faraer ahould raise enough aor-1 ghum ior his own use at least, aid if possible a little to sell, a9 no crop paya better, from the following results you will plainly see. I put ont J of o acre last spring aud it was partly cultiva ted (only oa plowing) and had it manufactured by Maxwell & Dingee, and I received 46 gallon of splended molasses. This was an uausual large yield, but I would say to the public generally if you want a good turnout and a good quality of syrup, deal with Maxwell & Dingee, or men of the ame principal, and theu it will pay you to raise Mrghum. There is another thine I wish to touch on a little and that is our fair. Let evarv farmer in Webster county make up his mind that he will take some thing to the fair next fall, and not nly siy he will, bat do so, and you will see that our fair will be the largest thing out next fall, aud as any one can see that the fair or agricultua society of Webtte county is a perfect don't fail to kecpit so, and "our cowty will soon be far ahead of any county in the state as we have the material to do Commence new talk the thing up moogyour neighbors keep it before the public, and let politics go as J'Wes A Tulleys are elected or nearM so. r- a, a a a, j REPUBLICAN COUNTY 1ICKET- For County Cleik, J. Though we, as a private individual, may not approve all the nominations that were made, yet we think the ticket, as a whole, is a very good one, and we consider it needless for us to write a long winded article, set ting fbJth th. morits of each candidate -eperately, all are too well and favor ably known for this to be necetsary, we would only say that the will of the people has been expressed, we supp ose, in the nomination of the above ticket, and we hope to hear less grum bling iu tho future thau we have in the past PrccMdlngi of the Cewrty Commissioners.
