The Fair wa? a success. The
town was full of pcoph and tennis.
The vegetable di-phy in the agricultu
rai hall was the most prominent fea
ture of the Fair.
Potatoes so large that forty of them
made a bu-hel weie fuuii-bed by Tom
iiiison. and Geo. Hummel produced
some that weie so abundant a- to yield
six bundled and foity bushels to the
at re.
A buihei measure wouldn't hold any
tnoie after I). F:z tut twelve of his
tin nips iu it. Mr. Knight- had an
cum triors white one, whose size we do
not now remenibtr.
.Joe Iloleo.nb's. beet weighed llbs.
Arthur Beals' cibbage 28lbs.
Wiggins, the blacksmith can ri?c
.-qti:-h as well as shoe horses. One of
hi- .-quashe- weighed 773 lbs.
Uncle Jack came over with corn-talk-fouitcen
feet hiuh, aud nine feet to
the first, tar. T.vo hiila had seventeen
ponderous ears hanging above ihem
huge enough to smash all tile corns in
the vi'lage.
Bi-e, ofJinvale, had 19 ears of pop
coin on a single stalk.
Ccon, the tall man over the river
brom-ht in some Gne peanuts, and
enough to how that money can be
m:de rai-ing them, if we un'y had
.-chool boy.i enough to cat them.
Dr. J. D. Woons of Biverton,
down here during the Fair. Dr.
Woods is highly .-p ken os a physician
by all those whoaie acquainted with
him. The Doctor is rapidly extending
his practice iu the eastern part ot
Franklin county, and buildiug up a
leputation as a successful practictioncr.
He h.u the app.aiance and carriage of
a diHj. -ot and atudiout man iu his pro
fession, iiid we do not hesitate to com
mend him to the people ol this county
as u hyiciau and gen.Iemuu.
A prominent feature of the Fair
was the bac ball conte3t for the prize
ol twenty five dollars. There were
only two foreLn clubs prescut, the
Burr tak and Franklin Co. Clubs.
The Burr Oak boys wtre without their
catcher, which miJe the prize lie be
tweeir the Frauki'D and Red Cloud
boys. The game between the Red
Clvud atid Eraukiio boys commenced
about half past ten aud continued un
til 2-30.
The Red Cloud boys played very
poorly in the field, but batted unusu
ally well. The game was tdiarply con
tested, and for some time was pretty
een, finally however, resulting in vie
.tory for Red Cloud by seventeen tal
lies. Immediately after dinner another
game took place between the Bun
Oak and Red Cloud Clubs which re
sulted in a victory for Red Cloud.
