was in town yesterday with a gentleman
from Nemaha county, whom h induced

first to renew his subscription for another
ycar, with tho "requisite. A good ex-
ample is worthy ol being followed.
Fred Hummel has just mado a nice
lot of Bologna Sausage which can be
found at the meat market ; also fresh
beef and pork constantly on hand. Try
and live whilo you' do live.
H. S. Kaley, some weeks since,
gathered a fine lot of fossil in the Solo
mon Valley, which can now be seen at
his office. These things are the petrified
remains of animals or reptiles that were
living and breathing ages before the foot
of aaan ever pressed the earth's green
sod. We would like to give the names
of some of those specimens but freely
own that we don't know enough to do
so. Mr. Kaley is something of a geolo
gist, and takes pride and pleasure in
making collections. Any one finding
any fossils will do well to bring them to
his office where he will be glad to label
and put on exhibition.

From Mr. Po toy--, of Hamony pre
cinct, we learn Mut tho Fourth will be
appropriately observed by the good eiti-
ens of that place, under the auspices of
the Grupgcrs. Tt is proposed to hold a
basket pic-nic at ThofnVs Grove, to
which all the Grangers of the count' are
invited, a well as the general public.
In the afternoonand evening there will
be a dance.
Mr. S. S. Wells has the largest gar
den in the county, consisting of thirteen
acres, entirely devoted to market garden
ing. He takes from two to four loads
of produce to the railroad each week.
Mr. Hoffman is just opening up a
stock of dry goods and groceries at Wells.
This will be a great convenience to the
citizens ?f Harmony.
About nil tke land is taken up in Har
mony, and that by actual settlers, but
somo of the best land in the county can
be bought of the railroad company.
Crops all look well, wheat heading out
and corn in tip-top condition. Plenty
of new potatoes and "garden sa-s" in
uulimitable abundance.
