"Barney' ' is always on ha'ad to aitte'nd to customer?. It is amusing to fee the young Indians try to shoot the small birds about our streets. Their manner of creeping upon their prey, even when in open view, is illustrative of their cautious movement when ou the hunt. We suggest to our brother of the Platte Valley Independent, tho propriety of properly crediting extracts borrowed from our paper. Our readers will please excuse our paper for its mutilated appearance, as our supply this week was badly injured in-itf transit office." to us from the "patent We hope our contemporaries will be careful when treating of Indian affairs, to say "Red Cloud Agency," and not ''Red Cloud," as the two places are hundreds of miles apart, and there is no danger from Indians at the Utter place. Active measures are being taken in New York City in favor of the temper ance cause. All over our country the movement against liquor dealers is being bravely pressed forward. We learn from a private letter ad dressed to a gentleman of this place that Col. Estelle may be expected home the latter part of this week. Persons desir ing to mak-j purchases ofR. R. lands can then call and close their contracts. T8b Inavale Sandaycu , Adi ceipt of a donation of Bibles, Teau.. a as va and papers from Dr. I. W. Snowden, 1 Missionary for the Ameiican 8. 8. Unioa, Lincoln, Neb., for which he has their sincere thanks. G. W. Kniout Sec. Tommy Jones, of Walnut creek, while engaged in catting a tree a few days &inne, saw a wild cat in the tree, which jumped to the ground very near him. His fulinaship showed fight, but Tommy struck him with his at at each onset, and at last succeeded in killing him. A man stopped at the Valley House the other evening who had been there but a few days before, and left, some things in the office. As he looked in tne door, he said ': "I declare here is my coat and scarf right where I left them, and I found my rope in the stable exactly where I lett that" We presume that man now believes in the honesty of our hotel keepers, and will not fear to trust them iu the future. Ex-Att't. Gen. Roberts, at present residing in Orleans, Harlan County, paid our town a visit on Wednesday. Rev. A. Maxwell has returned home from a visit to his friends in Fairmont He will preach next Sabbath at the school house, at II o'clock a. m. He will also preach at the Inavale school house at 3 p. m. Toe new bell for the school hoase is in its place, And its merry chimes were heard for the first time, Wednesday nooft. A portion of the Otoe tribe of In dians, who weat oat tohaatlast Novem ber, accompanied by their Ageat, have been camping near the river this week. They number 306, while 151 remained on the reservation. They attracted con siderable notice during their stay near towa, and sold some of their robes and furs to oar citiaens. We lean that they have woe beea very successfal oa their hunt, and that this la their last trip to the huating groaads of their lathers. They return to their reecrvatioa to im prove their faraas and try to support themselves. Red Cfoad Graage was orgaktled March 5th, 1874, by R. 8- Laagley, Deoh AdaaasC.tansted by H. Me Kclvy, D. The ueetiag wa called to order by J. G. Potter, and an appropriate prayer was offered by Rev. A. Maxwell, after which a beauti ful teuiperfttfce song Was sung by the choir. H. S. Phelps, Esq., theB d dressed the meeting. He described the downward course of the young man from innocence to ruin, and also made a touch ing appeal to the Good Templars to work V for the good of temperance. He was followed by the Rev. A. Maxwell, who showed by precept and Illustration1, that there is no valid reason why any person should not sigo the pledge. We want the influence of our leading men and then the work will be easier. His re marks were to the point and were well received by the audience. We must not forget to notice the ine singing given by our choir which was of no small account, and help to make the exercises much more interesting. VA&UED. STEWART-FORBES. At the resi dence of C. M.
