Even as the dire news of the death ef the lamented Lincoln startled and awed the community, so did this sec ond warning -of the unstability ef the lires of high public officials overawe and disturb the people of all ranks and classes. - By a common instinct, each person comprehended the complications that the death of the President would cause and the terrible commotion that would follow such an act in every corner of the commonwealth. THE PARTICULARS as far as ascertained : The first three telegrams were as follows: ' "The President was shot twice as he was leaving the Baltimore & Ohio de pot this morning; wounds supposed fatal ; no particulars. Then "The President is believed to be dy ing. "President Garfield was shot twice, Dr. Bliss savs the wounds may not prove fatal." This was followed by a more encour aging one as follows: "Washington, July 2d, 10:33 a. m. The President has been removed to the White House; his pulse is stroag and he is conscious; one wound in shouldor, the other in back, and ball has lodged in abdomen and not yet extracted ; not necessarily fatal. As sassin's dame was Chas. Gutian." Another dispatch says be was a French man, named Chas. Getteo. pkof. lovk's telegram. "Omaha. 10:30 a. m.. July 8. Post Master: President Garfield shot twice, in Washington, this morning. Reported dying. J. W. Lovk." At 1 :S0 the following report came : j "11:30 a. m. The man fired two jshots from a revolver as Blaine and jGarfield entered the depot, exclaiming as ko did so: "New we will have , another President! f T,l A maw im ranrfaJ i f at, citizens Bliould endeavour to restrain violent demonstrations and opinions mere guess work, until the facts can be obtained, when every patriot and lover of his country will aid in prose cuting the criminals and ruelingout exact and severe justice to the das tards, the cowards, the nihilists who have done this. The sympathy of the whole people will be with the President and bis family, and for Mrs Garfield especially. . Should he die, it might cause the death of Mia. Garfield as well. President Garfield was shot this morning at the raiiroad depot as he and party,were leaving the city for the north. The Presi ident was removed to the White House. No one' is admitted to his room except physicians. Executive Mansion is closed and guarded: 1JV police. The man was immediately arrested; his name is Gintoan, for merly Consul at Marseilles. All the 'Cabinet are around the President who now lies uncon scious, Omaha Republican. It seems Secretary Blaine must have been with the President, and that a party were leaving the depot for a vis it northward. The motive ef the scoundrel cannot be ascertained yst. Lit will probably prove fatal, as wounds in the abdomen are very dangerous. "Another Murdered. President" are words we never, never hoped to write again, but it looks as if that would be the end.
