It is an indisputable fact that Hall's Hair Renewer renews, cleanses, brightens, invigorates and restores faded tn grey hair to its youthful col or and luster, cheaply, quickly and surely. People with grey hair prefer to buy it, rather than to proclaim to the world through their bleached locks that tl.ev arc becoming aged, and passing on to decay. The K. of II. Reception last week was fairly well attended and passed off very pleasantly. The absence of Mr. McLennan and others of the hunt ing party who were expected to take pait in the entertainment of guests rather marred the full enjoyment of the occasion and we hope for no acci dents the next time the K. of II. pro pose to entertain is. Wisk, 4(5m. Fitzgerald Hlock. Rishop Clarkson requested that every parish in his diocese take up a collection last Sunday for the benefit of flood sufferers. About twenty dol- ars wa? raised in this parish, and for warded to the Rishop for that pur pose. - At the Presbyterian Church last Sunday a collection of over ?30 was taken up for sufferers by the late floods, and inasmuch as the town has sent 850 abroad to sufferers, this amount will be held for a time at least, to see what disposition had bet ter be made or' it closer home. There are many here, our neighbors, claim ing aid, and this with other monies raised, might as well be kept for emergencies at home. The Oddfellows' Masquerade Tues day night furnished a good deal of amusement. Many of the costumes were odd enough. The attendance was good and while making no money the order was not a loser. It was their intention to make the celebration of their anniversury a marked occasion and they have suc ceeded admirably, as few entertain ments have been conducted better and given more universal pleasure. C. H. Parker, Esq. of the firm of 0. R. Parker & Co., dealers in marble and granite with headquarters at Lin coln, has been a guest of our city for two weeks past. Mr. P. is happily blessed with the faculty of blending business, pleasure and integrity. He has earned for himself an enviable reputation as a business man, in the erection of the fine monuments in our cemetery, namely, for tlie Vallery es tate. Mis. Donelan, Mrs. O'Neil and others. The Sheep Shearing Festival, is developing into a grand affair, in ad dition to the fine lot of attractious al ready provided we a:e enabled to an nounce that Fx Gov. A full programme will be published next week, and in the meantime ladies of Beatrice, be think ingof what you can furnish in edibhg for the occasion at the Opera House. "Beatrice Express. . Our game supper is non est as the Lawyers would say. The floods en tered a nolle, the fates issued a mandamus and the wining the great match was non-sequitur. A stated last week Smith's party got in by a scratch, but four of the Livingston men, to wit; Chapman, Rennet. McLennan and Hushnell got caught over near Percival by high water and never read ed hare until Thursday when the game should have been counted Wednesday night. They just escaped from the bottom before the Levee broke above Percival and left theii game, guns and pouches be hind. The ''Deacon" was wanted here lor tne itramatics, lie came but had the Rheumatics and it took all the Soda Water in town to bring him out right Friday night. The late dramatic effort of our generous friends as illustrated by pro ducing the play of "Iljine" for the benefit of the sufferers by .flood in Northern Nebraska and Dacotah, met' with a fair success, though not as gootj as the cause would warrant. Snine' h-ive been disposed to criticise the play, unfairly we think. TJesi" o ur neighbors and Lieiids, w ho for a charitable cause agreed to devote some time and a good deal of labor to the production of an entertainment did not expect to rival Sothern in acting,' nor to prosent a play faultless in de tail, but only to amqse for an hour and we know th.it many people were pleas? ed and gratified at their success. The Wax Works were a decided success, the characters well got up. and well simulated. The play itself, a very difficult one, for amateurs was very well rendered, and all taking part deserve credit for their endurance and grit in placing it before the public in such good shape as they did in spite of many obtsacles. Knowing as we do that owing to the sickness of sjrne, and the unavoidable absence of others the dramatic Corps never held one full complete rehearsal, in which all the dramatis persona; were there, their.acting was a marvel, showing that the performers must have a natural aptitude for the minjio stage and fine natural resourc-ps to succeed at all, Retter than our opinion- of their mere acting was the result financially, which Was SoO for the poor f eople Jeff homeless on tle Mis.suqri bottom. A Double Rereaveiaent. Mrs. Dudly Higginson and infant child arrived in this city from Chicago last week, for the purpose of spend ing a short time with relatives hero before going to Omaha where Mr. II is in business. Mr. II. accompanied his wife as far as Pacific Junction where he received a telegram announc ing the death of his mother, whom they had left but h. short time before. apparently convalescent from a sick bed; he immediately returned to Chi casro and Mrs. Higcinson came on to Plattsmoutli with her babe, which was slightly ailing; nothing serious was ap prehended however until Sunday night the child being somewhat worse the doctor was called and administered some remedies. A few hours after it was taken with convulsions, in one of which it died. A telegram again convened the sad news to Mr. II., who had returned to Omaha, that another loved one had been takes away, and no other means of reaching here from Omaha being available, owing to the high waters. he traveled the whole distance, twenty-four miles, on foot. The funeral took place Tuesday after noon from the residence of Mr. F. E White, and the tiny babe, its short span of life ended, was laid to rest beneath the newly springing . sod, ty pical of the new life beyond the grave.
