Bain, the temperance ora tor of Kentucky, has come and gone, but not until he had delivered three of the grandest temperance lectures it has been the fortune of the Plattsmouth people to liston to. The masterly manner in which he handles his subject indicates a most thorough investigation, so that he knows w hereof he speaks, leaving no grounds for gainsay or doubt. His arguments are based on facts and prin ciples back of. which no one can go. The lecturer was greeted by a full lipase on the first night, and from the opening sentences io the close of his address, he held as by some magic pow er the attention of his audience. A large concourse of people assem bled on Saturday evening, to hear a further discussou of the Temperance question, an 1 on the Sabbath evening Fitzgerald Hall was literally packed with an earnest and intelligent audi ence to listen to the theme of the day. The lecturer was equal to the occa- sion and in his presentation of the sub ject, it seemed to us that the Col. left no stone unturned, bringing to the front in grand array, the pros and cons of thi) great question. He considered it in its economic. Scientific and Biblical aspects, dealing fairly and honestly throughout, pro duced from these sources irrefutable evidence that intemperance leads to poverty and disgrace, is contrary to and condemned by science and forbid den by inspiration. Mr. Bain is logical, intensely in ear nest, full of sympathy and moved un der theimportance of his subject, speaks from a head all aglow with interest for his fellow men. lie is a tine delin erator of characters and his powers of description are remarkable, while his eloquence fairly electratles his audi ence and holds its undivided attention it its weighty gr;isp. We can't but believe that good fruits must follow the efforts of Mr. Bain and we also believe that the cause of temperance in our own county has re ceived a new impetus by reason of I liiun luti,...u .an.
