Young man, don't try to forget your identity and become somebody else; for the other chap is almost sure to be an inferior person. "Is that a deer park over there?" asked a gentleman of a laborer. "Yes," he replied, "a very dear park. It almost ruined the owner to lix it up!" When a hangman and an undertaker meet and ask one another, "Well, how's trade?" it excites queer and perhaps grave emotions in the by standers. "Papa," said a sweet little girl to her father, a grim old lawyer, "could you make a pun or a joke on pudding?" "Suet" sue it said the grim old lawyer. 'Our friend, Colonel , never seems to take much money to church with him," said one gentleman to an. other. "Oh, yc3 lie does sancti mony I" was the answer. "Ma, ha3 aunty got bees in her mouth?" "Xo, my dear. Why do you ask?" ""Cause Captain Dean said he was going to taste the honey from her lips, and she said, 'Well, ruako baste.'" When young Dobb's uncle remarked that truth is stranger than fiction, young I. instantly remarked : "Now i understand why I never feel so much ft? home with truth 03 I do with what is not so strange.', A fashion correspondent says tliat Worth, the man-milliner promises to live longer than many oarsmen and circus acrobats. CMlJhuod. Childrcu are but little people, yet they form an important part of society, expend mucli of our capital, employ a greater portion of our popu lation in their se.vice, and occupy half the literati of our day in labors for their instruction and amusement. They cause more trouble and anxiety than the national debt ; the loveliest of women in her maturity ef charms, breaks not so many slumbers, nor oc casions so many sighs, as she did in her cradle; and the handsomest of men with full grown mustaches, must not flatter himself that he is half so much admired &s he ms when in petticoats. Without any reference to their being our future statesman, philosophers and magistrates, in min. lature disguise, children form, in their present state of pigmy existence, a most infiuentual class of beings : and the arrival of a bawling infant who can scarcely open bis eyes, and only opens its mouth, like an unfledged bird for food, will ellect the most ex traordinary alteration in a whole household; substitute affection for coidnes, duty for dissipation, cheer fulness for rarity, buii.e for lorm iU ity, and unito hearts which tiino has divided.
