A resolution to make tbe nomination unanimous carried, amidst applause. And the great contest ended. nr 1 Saturday convention called to order at 11:45 a. m., Kansas -contested dele gates admitted, which gave four for Grant. The contesting delegates from TTtah admitted, which crave one to Grant and one to Sherman. The ma jority report of committee on rules adopted. The remainder of the after- ternoon was taken up in discussioa of report on Tlatform and Resolutions. Tha Convention then took a recess from 4:45 until 7 p. m. Convention called to order at 7:15 On motion of Mr. Hale the roll of States was called, that announcement of members of the National Commit tee from each stato might be received Mfiniher for Nebraska. James TV. Dawes. After some unimportant discussion about the time of making Presiden tial nomination the roll of States was called and at the name of Michigan, Gov. Joy of that state took the plat form and in a five minute speech pre sented as the candidate for the Presi dential chair for the ensuing term, to be voted for by the people, the name of James G. Blaine. (Prolonged ap plause.) The nomination was second ed by Mr. Pixley, of California. Af ter which the Hon. Wm. P. Frye spoke for two minutes. The roll call of states proceeded and at the same of Minnesota, Mr. E. F. Drake aresa and nominated the Hon. Wm. Windom. The State of New York being reach ed. Senator Conkling placed in nomi nation Ulysses S. Grant. (Tremen dous applause.) Mr. Garfield of Ohio presented the name of John Sherman, and Messrs. Winkler of Wisconsin and Elliot of S. Carolina seconded the nomination Mr. Billings of Vermont, nominated Mr. Edmunds and was seconded by J. E. San ford of Massachusetts. Mr. Cassady of Wisconsin nomina ted Mr. Washburne and Mr. Xrandage of Connecticut, seconded. A motion was then made to adjourn which despite some opposition was adopted and at 11:50 adjournment was taken to Monday morning at ten. Convention called to order Monday, June 7th at 10 a. m. Balloting from 7 p. bq. to 10 p. m. dnring which time tea ballots were taken with no variation. At 10 p. m. Convention adjourned to 10 a. m., Tuesday morning. Eight ballots on Taesday aaoming, twenty of Edmunds men going to Sherman on first ballot, beine the Massachusetts delegation mostly. Grant's forces slowly growing and Blaine's slowly decreasing until the 36th and last ballot which resulted as told below.
