Herald: Will you please give space to the following, and oblige? An impression seems to have gained currency among sairxj of our citizens that be City Baud bays rfusfd thiir services on the evening of th Parnell nieetiug, last week. The fats, how ever, in the cae are, that the boys were willing and anxious to offer their mite ta tho good caass, and were only awaiting orders, as had bet agreed upou between tbera aad oae of the Parnell Committee -men oa the day previous to the meeting. As no orders "were received, the membera of the band naturally inferred their erv;cea were not in demand ; hence their non appearance. The insinuations that the members of the City Band evinced lack of pa triotism, oa the evening mentioned, are utterly absurd, as can Unascertain ed by inquiring iuto the nationality cf the individual parties, af which the band is composed. Myriads of so-cal;ei "s pacifies" and "cure" for Rheumatism hav already Utfcu brought Before the public, and many of theui have even been endors ed by the certiacatt-3 of respectable and prominent citizens, "who have derived hf nefit from such preparations. There is no doubt that a great many of tliesn "LiniaienU." "Oils," etc., so widely y.d vertistd and freely recommended for Rheumatism and paiuful complaints of a simiiar L&ture, have genuine mer it and will relieve certain types of the complaints named ; but wi;n Rheu matism, Neuralgia, and kindreil dis eases h:tvs become chronic and threat en serous resul ts, yon may rest assured lhi they will h.!p but very little. Al though ncit recommended aa "infalli ble," the pecuhar qualities of St. Ja cob's Oil, enpeei-tiiy adapt it to those cases which may be termed "chronic," aud which havo previously withstood all known "specifics, as well as the prescriptions of the best pSiysT.ans. We would mention, as an. example, the cass of Mr. A. Ileilman, Editor of tha Pittsburgh Republican, who suf fered with Rheumatism for two years. After vainly rtsiag all the best recom mended remedies and exhausting the skill of the most experienced physici ans without evea temxorary relief, it required only two botiles of St. Ja cob's Oil to effect a permanent cure. Mr. C. llanni, a well-kuawn citiren of Youngstawn, Ohio, secured for his wife, who for twelve years had been a constant sufferer from Neuralgia in the head, the services of the ablest phy sicians of the land, but they were un able to do anything for her; half a hot. tie of St. Jacobs Oil cured her. Mr Wrj. Reinhardt, Elmore, Wi3., reports the case of a neighbor who for twenty four years had suffered so terribly with Rheumatism that, at limes, he could hardly move around; a few bottles of St. Jacobs Oil cured him. "To cap the climax," however, Mr. A. Neiger, of Taylorville, la., writes that his mo ther, who had been a continual suffer er with Rheumatism for the past thir ty years, used one bottle of St. Jacobs Oil and was immediately relieved of all pain.- These are results which tru ly deserve to be brought to public no tice; but they are not exceptions, as will be seen by the numerous other certificates from all parts of the Unit ed btates. It should be tho duty of every one to call the attention of his ' suffering friends and neighbors to this ! wonderfully efficacious preparation, ! especially as ine low price of 50 cents a bottle places it within tha reach of all persons, rich and poor. - 46tl Ta Schsel Officers of Cass Caaaty. Believing that by meeting together and discussing the various subjects connected with school work, school of ficers can do much toward impraving our common schools, I have concluded to call two meetings of school officers; one at Plattsmouth, Feb. 23th, aad 0:10 at Weeping Water, March 4th. There is a number of subjects that I would like to present to the officers, which I cannot do effectually in any way but by such meetings. As much difficulty is experienced in obtaining fall and correct reports, I will have the blanks for the coming year, distribute them at thess meetings, and give you such help as may be desired. I believe this will relieve yo of con3iierablo diffi culty, and I shall be able to get much better reports. I hope fh.at every school oJJUer ia t!ie Ciunly will be present at one or the other of these meetings, and I wilt use my best endeavors to make the meetings such as to pay you for the trouble of coming. By a thorough understanding between the different school boards, and the school boards and Superintendent, our schools can doubtless be much improved. Let ua have a larg attendance. E. II.
