In answer to frequent complaints of
the "continual change of text-bolvS,"
I ake occasioa to say that all such

in defiance of law, indeed.

Ed. Herald: -I once tuoie take up
my pen to drop you a few items. Our
burg has been moving on in the even
tenor of its ways. Farmers are Bill i
earning in with corn, notwithstanding
the-dec-IiiiO.
We had hs visitors here, this week,
the editor of the Herald, Dr. Livings
ton and Mr. Kaley. The latter two
gentlemen were hero making arrange
ments to move the fish that were
batched for the Slate by Remine &
Decker on their fish farm in Sarpy Co.
The first batch was shipped west, in
carvf Mr. Kaley, who will distribute
them in the western streams It does
seem somewhat fooliadi for the State
to go t the expense of hatching fish
to put in our streams, in their present
lilthv condition, with u Ivog pen or sta
ble 011 each quar'er section. With the
wash from tlitm constantly accumu
lating in the streams, it has already
killed all the native ii.-h. The first
thing that should be done is to cleanse
the streams, and prohibit hog pens
from being built on the streams; fr
it is impossible for 11 ?h to live in
streams with fiwm one to two feet of
filth in them.
Mrs. C. II. Piukham presented her
husband wkh another boy the third
boy. Mr. Mcffatt is building a resi
dence in Dill's addition; so is A. S.
Iloyt. Our village was disturbed by
the unearthly howls of a drunken man
made crazy with whisky, and then
turned out t disturb the quiet citi
zens. This ought 1 be slopped. There
should not any liquer sold in unin
corporated towns where there are no
local laws to govern them.
Messrs. Campbell, Robinson, Cook
and Yaasun started for the Far West
on Moi.day. They have the good wish
es of their numerous fritmds; all are
sorry to lose them. C. L. Clapp Called
yesterday ; we are glad he has got a
good thing; Charley is a good boy. Ev
eryone here is having their bumps felt
by a traveling phrenologist. The trav
eling agent of the Staats Zitung, of
Chicago, was in town looking after the
interest of his paper; it is Republican
iu politics, and has numerous sub
scribers around here. We are having
a snow storm to-night.
I will closo with the markets: Corn,

wheat, 90J2 per bushel; hogs, S3.75
