THE LAUNCH.
CAP. SOU DAY'S NEW FERRY-BOAT.

fOFT SOAP AHEAD WALTER WHITE
GREASES UP THINGS AND
RUNS HER INT.
On Saturday April 20th, 1873, the
first boat lauucii from the levee of this
town took place. Everybody was there,
the bank was lined with people, the
hillside was covered as with bees
swarming. The day was bright and
beautiful; the launch had been an
nounced for four o'clock but it was
six before she fairly floated.
At four they commenced to let her
down on the blocks. It was a longer
job than they expected and some little
minor de'ays and mishaps kept them
until about half past live, when she slid
down onto the ways, but not (iuite far
enough to just catch on the greased
planks, and stuck for a few moments.
While called for help, tha ropes were
cut and a hundred men and boys put
their shoulder to the sides and heaved
her off. A slip a dip a slide, a glide
three cheers and a tiger ! ! She
Floats. Hurrah ! Hun ah ! ! Hurrah ! ! !
Xow u-e'hope they wiil nx her up

and we can assure plenty of work. All
