are valuable clays there which ought
to be utilized.

D. II. Wheeler, Capt. Palmer, S. S.
Hinkle Frank. White, J. A. MacMur-
phy, are the delegates to the grand
lodge A. F. and A. M. in session at j
Omaha this week.
Well now, we should think Dan
Wheeler's paper would gain friends by
pitching into Joe Johnson in this coun
ty. Maybe thy are afraid of Joe
again and want to slaughter him as
they did last year.
The sound of the brass band is

Dr. John Black Is home from a
visit to Buffalo, where he has enjoyed

and that of Dr. Livingston at

have been rattling around in the chairs
there but they couldn't fill em.
Warm and growing weather at

The Cass County Premium List,
printed at the Journal Office, Lincoln,
and stamped with a lie, viz: "Chroni
cle Book and Job Print," is a very cred
itable job except Class 9.
-"We are glad to hear that our har

There will be a meeting of the Di
rectors of the Cass County Agricultu
ral Society, on Saturday June 22d, at
two o'clock p. in., at the Secretary's of
fice, to transact some important busi
ness concerning the Premium List.
Don't fail to be present.
J. 1. Young, Sec.
Maybe you think "Tip-Top" ia
not a judge of babies, thatyou make so
much fun of him. It has been settled
long ago that Shakesieare did not need
to I e a rascal himself in order to
write the character of Tago. Neither
is it necessarv for a man to have child
ren himself to be a jude of other peo
ple's, any m're than he would be requir
ed to hatch chickens or raise calves
in propria persona.
The premium list of the Cass
County Agricultural Society is at hand,
and is a neat liitle pamphlet. The
Ca'S county fair commences th 17th.,
and hold four davs. Syracuse Journ
al. And the same was printed at Lin
coln, when the IIf.rAld could have
done it here: remember that farmers
when you read it, and you merchants
in Plattsmouth. when you pay for your
Ads. S'i-") sent to Lincoln, that you
would have got here had the work
been done at home.
Mr. Will S. Wise entertained sev
eral couple of Plattsmouth young peo
ple Tuesday night, in the best possible
manner. A pleasant social time was
enjoyed by a'l and every one aprreciat
ed the splendid supper prepared by Mrs.
Wise. The demand for strawberries
and raspberries was immense, but the
supply was unlimited .and even Morri
son and Drummond expressed them
selves as satisfied, a fact which rather
surprised the rest of the company.
Mr. and Mrs. Wise did all possible to
make things pleasant, which we are
sure was appreciated.
Mrs. J. D. Simpson has engaged
rooms in Fitzgerald's Block, second
story, front, for the accomodation of
her music scholars, and is fittirg them
up very pleasantly. This will, we
think be a change for the better and
with Mrs. Simpson and Miss Lillie to
preside over the new mu3ic hall will
be a very desirable place to go for in
struction. We understand that Mrs.
Simpson's large and constantly increas
ing class are making rapid progress,
which forms the best recommendation
of her skill in instructing them. The
young people of Plattsmouth are very
fortunate in having so thorough and ac
complished teachers as Mrs. Simpson
and Miss Lillie to go to for instruc
tion, and we are glad to see them avail
ing themselves of it, so generally.
Suppose that the Plattsmouth
school system does come under the
head of Common Schools and the mon
ey obtained here by licenses, fines, &c,
can be retained by the City authori
ties, there'll be no trouble about
that. The point made against Ordi
nance No. 86 was that it was not legal.
Granted, that the Council should have
charged more, and that it all goes into
our school fund, who first fished round
to find some way to evade the law as
they then understood it and get out
of paying the S)00 (when collected?)
to the county school fund ? Why the
backers of Wheeler's paper, and they
were the only ones and the first ones
we heard that said they didn't want
8300 collected, if it had to go into the
County school fund and Plattsmouth
couldn't get it. That's just what tbey
said. If other men were sharp enough
to frame an Ordinance that favored
the license afterward, the blame falls
first on the elfish man who suggested
evading thelaw somehow, and gobbling
the money here. That's honesty, we
suppose? That's high morality ? Give
us something to wash our mouth cut.

A Delicious Box.
"We received from Mrs. P. L. Wise
by the hands of Mr. Wise a box con
taining some extra fine strawberries,
rasberries, white currants and cherries,
and a beautiful boquet of roses and
other blossoms. Every strawberry
was sufficient for a mouthful and the
other fruits were equally fine. We
have always understood that Mr. Wise
had some very fine fruit on his place
and now we can testify to the fact,
and tender our sincere thanks for the
same.
Rockwell, of Louisville, has added
a millinery department to his dry goods
establishment, where will be found all
the latest styles of ladies' hats and
bonnets, and fancy goods generally,
which will be sold very cheap for cash.
This department will be kept entirely
independent of the store and will be
presided over by Mrs. Rockwell, who
is an experienced milliner. Ladies can

Another S tIous Accident.
Chas. Harrison, an employee of the

shoulders as the boat started ; the injur
ed man was brought up on the train
and placed under the care of Dr. Liv
ingston. We le;.rn that the injuries sustained
by Mr. Harrison are much more seri
ous than was supposed at first. His
back is broken, and only one chance in

A Gentle Hint.
In our style of climate, with its sud
den changes of temperature, rain,
wind and sunshine of ten intermingled
in a single day, it is no wonder that
our children, friends and relatives are
so frequently taken from us by neglect
ed colds, half the deaths resulting di
rectly from this cause. A bottle of
Boschee's German Syrup kept about
your home for immediate use will pre
vent serious sickness, a large doctor's
bill, and perhaps death, by the use of
three or four doses. For curing Con
sumption, Hemorrhages, Pneumonia,
Severe Coughs, Croup or any other di

now sold in every town and village on
