The horses that were wrecked by the train that jumped the track last Thursday night, were re shipped for Seward yesterday. Jones & Stroud lost a valuable horse last Sunday, it had just been ta ken from the stable when it dropped dead, without previous ailment. The first Ice man of the season was around Tuesday morning with his cooling wares. Nearly one-fifth of Wheeler's hist paper was devoted to abusing MacMur phy. a man they say has no "influence?" Let's see; didn't a feilow by the narne of Thomas come here a while rgo to edit a paper. "What became of him? Connor says there is money behind it. Their line of fancy goods i3 very complete. 9t2. The boys celebrated last Saturday nitiht, after the returning board arose and announced the result of the elec tion, with the cannon and sundry bon fires in main ttreet. It was an expres sion of feeling for some of the men and the small boy was happy. The Presbyterian church is being repaired and otherwise improved, so there will be no services in the church Sunday morning and evening, but the next Sabbath services as usual will take place. The cold weather is pushing small grain rapidly forward, but corn will make little advancement until the ground dries out and warm weather is the order of the day. If that chap that sold buggies here had advertised in the local papers here, as he has since done and let Frank White have done the selling, he would have dune much better. Mrs. Johnson and Miss Sweeney have gone into the wholesale mil linery business as well as retail. Wholesaling to milliners further west. Genuine Sidenburg's Key West ci gars, acknowledged the nest in the mar ket; at Young's Post Office store. The final term examinations are being conducted in the different de partments of the Iliga School this week. To all appearances the term ! closing has been a profitable one, and the pupils in the several classes show a good amount of interest. The class in Geology during oral examination did excellently, considering the advanc ed subject treated. If we were given to criticism we. would not approve tho Prof's, idea that man's appearance in the seventh age was unfortunate, eith er joking er in earnest. The examina tions on tlwe who-le are creditable to all concerned. The closing night of the Catholic festival last Thursday night, was very pleasantly spent. The band discoursed excellent music, and the dancers danced with old time spirit. The tables were well spread and well attended. The voting for the silver set, &c, was an nimated and spirited. The beautiful silver set was won by Miss Mary Phe len ; she being voted the most popualr lady in the room, by 305 votes. Xow I want to say that you have paid more at tention to my shop from time to time (for less money) than all the rest of the County papers. 1 have nothing to say against the other papers, nor against " Disgusted," but I think your paper is the best in the county for local matters. Eeat3 o.icord lummtr all hollow. i On Monday n?ght last, 0a we tver peacefully dreaming that we did not run a county newspaper and never got cursed by anybody, the tinkle of a gui tar roused us to a realization of our less blissful condition, and we became aware thai we were the subjects of a serenade, the guitar being reinforced by several voices in a familiar song. The voices too seemed familiar, and putting this and that together we have arrived at the conclusion that never mind, we know, and we know that they know that we know, and aint that enough? On Thursday night as the 11:30 freight westward bound, in charge of conductor Young, was pulling out of the yard at this place, when out by the lime kiln the way car and the one in front of it jumped the track and rolled down the bank and stopped on the brink of the river. The passengers in the way car were rolled and tumbled about lively. Three or four were bruis ed up considerably, and W. E. Carr, of Valparaiso Ind., was quite seriously in jured, receiving a hard blow on the head and having his breast bone and three ribs broken; he was taken to the Saunders House and placed under Dr. Livingston's care. The other car that left the track contained 17 horses, 4 of which were killed outright, and the rest made their escape, but were brought in next day. The cause of the accident is unknown, but it occurred on a very rough piece of track which has since been repaired.
