Found A large bras3 door key was found on Washington Avenue Wednsday morning, which the owner can Lave by calling at the Herald office. George Leving's team ran away on Tuesday breaking the tongue of the wagon, and scattering things some, but not doing any other damage, we believe- We call the attention of our read ers to the notice of the Rocky Moun tain Tourist in another column. It is a really beautiful work and contains a comprehensive description of Colora do scenery and Kansas lands. It is well worth considerable effort to get. The temperance women of Lincoln turned out in force on election day and building bonfires furnished the voters with hot coffee, and also by moral suasion and Bweet smiles en- deavered to induce the voters to cast their votes for the temperance candi dates. So says the Journal. litre Sheriff livers has been hunt ing up criminals out in Colorado and down in Missouri, and never told the Herald a word about it. The party arrested in Colorado was George Red ner, accused of burglary and larceny; the name of the Missouri party we did uot learn. The sheriff during his trip was snowed up for four days. Strayed from the farm of J. If. Becker, six miles west of Plattsmoutli, a red cow with one small horn, some white be tween the legs. A suitable reward will be offered to the party returning her. Word may be left at the Herald office or sent to J. II. Becker, Platts moutli. 2tf We understand that a number of petitions have been brought in to the Commissioners for the removal of the county seat. The petitions embrace a majority of the voters in western pre cincts, and a number from Rock Bluffs, Liberty, See. containing about 1400 name. 1 he Commissioners have un der advisement the calling of a special election but had not decided at last ac counts. The little three year old daughter of Fred Keith met with a very severe accident .ast Saturday afternoon. She was running and playing down the hill from her father's residence, when she stumbled and fell, breaking her leg just above the knee. Dr. Sehildknt-cut was called in and relieved the little sufferer, who is doing as well as could be expected. Roll of lienor. These c:vtj are really a work of art, as well as the suits which they represent, and it is well known th.it Ramge can get up as nobby ft suit as any one. We shouldn't object to a new one ourselves thi. spring, but unfortunately Rainge did'nt make the pocket in our last one quite deep enough, and the money as usual has all "slid out," but we recom mend him to our friends whose pock ets are deeper than ours. Tc-niyle of Honor. The following is a list of the officers elected on last Saturday evening by Plattsmoutli Temple of Honor, No 15, for the ensuing year. W. C. T..J. A. Conner; W. V-T. V.. The above officers will bo installed to serve. at the first meeting in May, for one year. We dropped in, a few days since, and made the acquaintance of Mr. S.C. McLain, three doors east of Parmele's Livery Stable, who has opened a car riage painting shop, and after exam ining several carriages, buggies, t-pring wagons, xc, which he has in course of painting, and some finished, we have no hesitation in recommending Mr. McLain as a first class carriage painter, and to all appearance an indus trious and honorable young man, and would recommend to our community who may need anything in his lino of business to give him a call, a3 he is un doubtedly master of the trade and has come here to stay permanently and build up a business. The Temperance Societies and peo ple of Plattsmoutli had quite a rally on last Thursday. We were unable to attend, but learn from persons who did that ti e exercises consisted of a pro cession of the "Cold Water Army" dressed in regalia, numbering 18G youths and misses, under the guidance of the following named ladies: Mrs. Marshal, Supt. of 1st grade; Mrs. C. P. Smith, Supt. 2d grade; Mrs. D. II. Wheeler, Supt. 3d grade; Mrs. B. Spur lock. Supt. 4th grade; Mrs. W.D.Jones, Supt. 5th grade, and Mrs. J. N. Wise Supt. Cth grade. The ladies of Plattsmoutli Interested in the temperance cause, determined that the voters should have no temp tation to imbibe the contents of the Mowing bowl, after the arduous duty of voting on election day, because noth ing else offered, and so organized free lunch w hich was spread in the count Judge's room and which proved a great success. Over three hundred cups of coffee were served to voters, as well as more substantial viands in proportion. In the evening a sort of h temperance jubilee was held in the same place and enthusiasm for the good cause rose high under the inspir ing effects of sociability and a good cup of coffee. Political party principles did not en ter into this contest, bat the questions were purely of a local nature, such, as high or low license for saloons; the centering of all city schools in the High School, or the keeping of Ward Schools, and some other local and per sonal matters. As will be seen above the election was close. The high li cense candidates are all elected except three Burgess on School Board and Farifield and McCallum in Council, were on the low license ticket. We noticed radishes, lettuce ami peas, in several gardens a few days ago, in some cases two or three inches high, and one lady informed us she would have lettuce soon. So much for the 1st of April. Really an Elegant Thing. The new Rocky Mountain Tourists, just from the press, is indeed an artis tic gem. In point of engravings, print ing and descriptive it is beyond all question the handsomest publication of the character ever issued in the United States. There are in this work no less than sixteen of Thomas Mo- ran a exquisite drawings, and among them lus reproduction of the Mount or the Holy Cross. Of Moran s other matchless drawings are those of Grand, Glen. Maible, Knob and Boulder Can ons, Twin Lakes, Teocalli Mountain, etc. Joseph Beard is represented by characteristic hunting sketches, Bisbing by several exceeding attractive moun tain sketches, Lancelot by spirited drawings of the remarkable rock sculp ture on White River, and orral by full page views at Veta Pass and Wag on Wheel Gap, as well as a largo num ber of other very finely executed sketches in different portions of the western country. The engravings are for the most part large, the full quarto pages of the Tourist enabling the show ing to the finest advantage of plates seven by ten inches. The book com prises sixty-four pages, exclusive of the cover, and printed as it Is upon supersized and calendered paper of the richest finish, the effect throughout is superb. While a very model of typ.v graphical beauty, the Tourist is none the less practical in its information, time, distance, railroad and stage fares, hotel and livery rates being noted with uniform accuracy and in so easy and pleasing a manner astoentirely relieve the work of everything aproaching the tedious details of the average guide book. Containing no advertisements of whatever character, the new Rocky Mountain Tourist is fit companion to Picturesque America in any gentle man's library.
