have been on the sick list, but glad to
chronicle their recovery.
Will Uallauce cut his fingers on a
fan last week and it looks as if he may
have to lose a couple. We are sorry
to hetr this, indeed.
The Assessor is once more on his
rounds. Good thing for Uro. Shryock,
but very little use to the city, as we
have quit paying taxes it seems.
Mr. J. M." Hoover and Miss Augus
ta Louisa Panknien were married, by
his honor Judge Sullivan at the resi
dence of Mr. Herman Smith, on Tues
day the 12th.
They do tell us that Billy Hassler
takes another Horn to-day in short,
Uilly is going to 1? married. Every
buggy in tow n is engaged for Billy's
benefit. What will Mike do now?
Iron fronts are all the go now,
G. Ilerold has one put in and the Post
Otiice will soon have. Bob Sherwood
follows suit. A cast iron street
wouldn't be bad nowadays.

ceipts, letter beads (in covers) and all
that class of work, very cheaply;

Godey's Ladys" Book for April con
tains a design in perforated cardboard
of a "scratch my back" which was en
graved expressly for Godey, and re
presents a camel, with a background
of palm trees. &c. Rather a difficult
setter to scratch that bark.

We saw a sad sight the other day
at Dan. Johnson's mill, nothing more
or less than a yard full of the finest
kind of hogs dying with cholera. Mr
Johnson has been very unfortunate as
some of the hogs lost were imported
stock costing large sums of money. The
disease is now checked and Dan with a
brave heart says he will try again.

settle on or before April 1st, or the ac
counts will be put in the hands of a

The firm of Ruffner & Black have
divided. Mr. Ruffner remains in
Plattsmouth and Mr. Black goes to
Weeping Water where they have rent
ed the store building formerly occu
pied by Fleming & Race. We think
this a good move as the Grin will be in
the heart of the agricultural district
of the couuty at Weeping Water.
Died At Kansas City, Mo. on the
12th inst, Lorenzo Johnson, father of
O. F. and Lorenzo Johnson, of this
place, aged 83 years.
Mr. Johnson was one of the oldest
r. sidents of Cass County and raised a
large family here, most of whom are
married and living in the state.
He was a very intelligent man. but
so quiet few persons really became ac
quainted with his worth and force of
character. Deceased was a Mason of
high standing in his native state, Xew
York. Tl e body was brought to Platts
mouth for burial to-day and funeral
services will be held at St. Luke's (Epis
copal) church on Sunday, where all
the friends of the family are invited to
attend.

A son of Prof. Wise is visiting his
parents in Plattsmouth.
Mr. Frank Stadter, came down for a
a short visit on Saturday last, went
home Monday evening.
Mr. Stewart Livingston, a nephew
of Dr. Livingston, and a former resi
dent of Plattsmouth, is visiting here.
The Rev. Mr. Baird of the Presby
terian Church, called to pee us Tues
day. We like to see the Ministers in
the Herald office. The preachers and
the pressers ought to be good friends.
Bob Maxwell has bought a one half
interest in the Tewsbury mill near
Weeping Water and the firm is now
Tewksbury and Maxwell the Herald
hopes most heartily-the new firm will
succeed.
Master George II. Palmer six years
old has got too old and too big to be
wholly dependant on his Papa's income,
we notice that he h. is made his start
in life merchandizing, selling apples,
two for five cents, real beauties too
bully for George.
i- Mr. Fleming of the firm of Fleming
& Race, visited us Tuesday on his way
to Colorado, where his wife has been
all summer, this climate not agreeing
with her so well as a higher latitude.
Mrs Fleming will propably remain in
Colorado the greater part of thi sa-
' son.
It's "moighty" handy to have a
Murphygraph connected with this of
ffce that's the way we now get our
Kearney news.
Mr. Dawson has removed to the
bouse formerly occupied by Mr. Cutler
and Mr. Carruth and family will occu
py their own house and go to house
keeping again.
J. V. Weckbach will leave on the
18th to lay in a large stock of new
goods for the Spring trade, and in or
der to make room for the same in his
already well filled store, will sell every
thing now in stock at bottom prices,
for the next few weeks. Don't you
forget it.
