Narrow tscape.
Mr. W. L. Tucker had a narrow es
cape from house burning Sunday. One
of the children took a candle up in
the'r room and sat it down so near the
wall that the girls dresses caught fire,
and in a moment the whole side of the
room was afire, the children ran scream
ing for Mr. Tucker, and it was only by
his presence of mind that one of the
girls and the house was saved. He
tore the clothes dowri with his hands,
and smothered the fire in a blanket,
burning his fiugers very badly and
singing hair and whiskers. The loss
is S-50 or SGO, in dresses, carpets, &c.

Canada Bill is at last dead and was
buried in l'enn near Heading. It is
said he died penniless.
James II. Tucker, of Liberty called
to see the Hkkald last week. The
faces of old friends look pleasant these
days of anxiety.
A. J. Clark, a brother of Suveyor
General Clark, paid us a visit last week,
guest of Andy McLaughlin, bank Cash
ier. Mr. James Hall of Mt. Pleasant was
one of the few good friends of the
IIekald, who took the pains to come
up to our office and give us the Elec
tion returns from his precinct. Thanks.
A seedy, nonchalant and lazy fellow,
dressed in a cast off party Uniform
lounged into Cass Co.,andPlattsmouth
last week. He put up with some of
our best Bepublicans and bilked every
one with whom he stayed, out of their
rights and his expenses. This fellow
has gained a title by some means
probably bogus -it is "General Apathy."

twelve months after date. All of said
notes drawing 10 per cent per annum.
Said notes were lost or stolen from the
said Celestian Decoty on or about the
21st day of October. A. D.. 1877, in
and about Cedar Creek, in the county
of Cass, Neb.
