TL, now re siding in Sheldon, 111.' The wedding took place at the Pres byterian church at 3 p. m. ; the cere mony waS performed by Chaplain A Wright, Rev. Mr. Baird, the rector, be ing absent. The service was very short, and there were no bridesmaids nor ushers. The bride looked very eharrning in a myrtle-green cashmere suit trimmed with silver-gray fox fur, a hat jvith close fitting brim of velvet, and crown of peacock's feathers and bronze green plumes, and gloves of 'a delicate flesh tint. We believe it 1s usual to describe in glowing terms the charms of the bride and treat the groom as a very unimportant part of the programme but we protest against this and declare that he was becoming ly and suitably arrayed and behaved with all the dignity befitting so august an occasion. At the close of the ceremony a few of the relatives and triends repaired to the house to congratulate the happy couple and bid them good bye, after which they left on the after noon train for the East, expecting to make a short visit in Chicago and some other points, and then jo to their home iu Sheldon. Having boen for years past a resi dent of Platlsmouth, and a favorite r.mong its young society, Miss Myrtle will be missed greatly. In company with some ladies the nERALD tools a very pleasant 3leiih ride last week. Amoug other places visited, we paid our respects to the new machine shops of the B. & M. It., south of town. Turning our team ov er to one ef the 40 odd boys who had helped to make the bells jingle and the sleigh run easy over cross walks and so on, we pushed the great brown doors open and entered, followed by the ladies, who had a great desire to see the in side of the buildings. Spying our spe cial friend, Will Ballance, we asked him to how us around. Will said he was just forging a thunderbolt to elect a United States Senator with and must strike while the iron was hot, or he'd do it gladly. He referred us, however, to his brother "Rob," who wasn't on the thunderbolt department, and more over, was much better looking and a greater ladies man, he would gladly show us round. So we all went over to Rob. R. smiled all over, dropped a gouge on hi3 left c foot, stuck the wrong end of a piece of brass into his lathe, never winked, but threw off a band, stopped his machine and said he would only be too happy to see us through, but when the girls backs were turned informed us privately that he'd half murder Will when he got him alone. As that was something we had no.interest in we turned to see the big engine Kearney, now on the track get ting overhauled for a new years work, "how big it looks" said all of us, and it did sat up there way above eur heads like a ship on her stocks; it eeraed to loom up a huge monster of force and power, and so it is. We also saw the sleeper lately brok en up at Omaha, when poor Kinney was killed. It is being repaired. Aftsr looking at the various, curi ous, humming, buzzing, clatter ing.goug- ing and twisting machines in this room, we turned to Rob to get the names of the men who do all this, turning the glewing iron into forms of strength and usefulness. 'Its circulation has steadily in creased since its first issue.and its general busi ness prosperity ha kept pace with its circu lation. Thus encouraged, its proprietors are determined that in the future no effort will be spared to keep it in the front raukof Wetern journalism. The popular demand is not only for an organ of opinion, but for a history of the time some thing that will come fully up to the poet's Idea of A map of busy life. Its fluctuations aud its vast concerns. In this respect we claim for the Globe-Democrat a reputation second to that of no journal In the West, yielding to no rival in our efforts to obtain the news, and to present the same in an attractive shape. Our aim is to publish a newspaper adapted to the wants, tastes and interests of the people of the Mississippi Valley.
