Medals and Diplomas have been so
numerously awarded at Philadelphia,
that they are of little value in deter
mining comparative excellence of ex
hibits. It is only in the Judges Re
ports, just published1 that this is deter
mined, and rank assigned competing
articles.
The Mason & Hamlin Cabinet Or

and diploma, but are unequivocally
assigned by the judges "The First
Rank in the several requisites of such
instruments," which is equivalent to
pronouncing them best ia all the im

a Pound sociable. For the benefit of
the uninitiated wo copy the following
from an exchange:
This form of amusement is bound to
be caught up at once for the use of
church parties and ladies charities, it
is so cheap and so diverting at once.
It has the patronage of fashion this
winter, for it is a favorite form of
spending a sociable evening among
matrons and elderly business men who
are not above having some fun of an
evening. Each guest is expected to
bring with him or her a package of
something or anything to weigh exact
ly a pound, done up so that nobody can
tell what is in it. The fun is to hold
a parlor auction, with the glibbest
speaker as auctioneer, and the parcels
are sold to tha highest bidders unopen
ed. Fun, is it ? You never saw such fun
as when the packages are opened, and
the Wall street man who bid five dol
lars for a tissue paper parcel finds that
it contains a bologna sausage, bought
on the way up town by a fun loving
matron, or the stiff bachelor bids oft a
girl's powder and rouge box, or a gay
young married womon finds a pound
of smoking tobacco in hers. Ex.

How many apples Adam and Eve

1G." Boston Journal.
"We think the above figures entirely
wrong. Eve 81st and Adam 8-2 total,
163." Glouchester Advertiser.
"Wrong ngain. What could be clear
er than if Eye 8-1 aud Adam 8-1-2,
the total was 893." Lawrence Amer

"But if Eva 8-1 -1st and Adam 8-1-2,
would not tha whole bo 1,623?" Bos

Still another calculation is as follows.
"If Eve 8-1-4 Adam, Adam 8-1-2-4-2
oblige Eve; total, 82,056. We think,
however, this not to be a sufficient
quantity, for though we admit that
Eve 8-1-4 Adam. Adam, if he 80-8-1-2-4-3
keep Eve company ; total, 8,0S2,056"
New York Mail.
A correspondent writing to the
Philadelpsia Bulletin adds this: "You
all make a big fuss trying to do a very
simple sum. Don't you see that Eve
8-1-4-2 show Adam how, and if Adam
80-0-2-8-1-4-2 keep Eve company?"
This is evidently correct, for there

CABINET ORGANS
Have been unanimously assigned the
"First BBaialk
!," SEVERAL REQUISITES"
OF SUCH INSTRUMENTS AT THE
U. 8. CENTENNIAL 1876.
and are the only organs assigned this rank.
Their superiority is thus declared, not in one or
two respects only, but in all the important qual
ities of an organ. A medal and diploma nave
also been awarded them, .ut medals of equal
value were awarded all articles deemed
worthy of recognition, so that many makers
can advertise "first medals" or "highest
awards."

termined by tne Judges' Reports alone, in
which the Mason Hamlin Organs are unani
mously assigned "the first rank in the several
requisites" of each instruments,, and are the
only ones assigned this rank. See Judges' Re
ports. This result was not unexpected, for
these organs have uniformly taken highest
awards in such competions, there being less
man six exceptions in nunureus oi compari
sons. Thev were awarded first medals, and
highest honors at Paris is;7. Vienna 1H13, San
tiago ls75, Philadelphia 1876 ; having thus been
awarded hichest honors at every world's exhi
bition at which they have competed, and being
the only American organs vthich ever obtained
anv award in Europe.
New styles, with improvements exhibited at
the Centennial-; elegant new cases in great va
rioty. Prices very lowest consistent with best
material and workmanship. Organs sold for
cash or installments, or rented until rent pays.
Kvery organ warranted to give entire satisfac
tion to every reasonable purchaser or the
