WHO GO THERE?
Everybody, the lame, the blind, the
deaf, the dumb, all find something
they can understand and appreciate.
I was Astonished at the number of
cripples, and to see how dottly they
squeezed through the crowd, persons

leave home have come out bound to
see the big show, and for a wonder the
crowd, great sis it is, stands aside as a
rule and lets the poor, the weak, the

richest, the strongest and Die best, all

were sawed pine timbers, laid fiat, one
on another, and the cnd3 morticed in
stead of being rejiulsirly notched. Of
Co. use there could be no chinking and
daubing, and it had altogether too good
;i pine sawed shingie roof to be a real
good imitation of an old fashioned log
cabin. Inside it did first rate, though.
There was the old tiro-nlace, and the
strings of apples and pumpkins over
head ah.r.g the beams drying. An old
almanac of 171)3 and another of 1810
hungat the side. The ladies in attend
ance were dres-spd in old fashioned
costume, and many of tliem beingquite
oung and rather good looking, they
receive:) a great deal more attention
than the same number of hundred year
(Mors would have done.
Here may be seen Peregrine "White's
cradle, being th? rot king abode of the
baby that came over in the Mayflower.
Henry Pet-ck can make a better looking
cradle nowadays, I know; whether he
can give it the age, and put as good
looking a baby in it as Miss White is
sai l to have been, is doubtful. He
w ouldn't want to put a White baby in
it anyw-ay, we presume, considering
the number of people of that name
that live in this village.
Several old fashioned bonnets that
look as if they were patterned afterthe
ones worn at our "old folks' concert,"
here some time ago and a calash or two
hung up about. Gov. Kndicott's chair,
two hundred years old. Though, for
the. matter of ancient furniture, we
slopped at an old Aunt's in' Massachu
setts who could duplicate the furni
ture for both sige and quaintness any
time of day. Two girls quilting an
interminable quilt, looked grandinoth
eily in the paint and powder of yore,
with big puffed sleeves.
Just outside of the cabin proper is
;i lunch rooin witli the cheapest bill of
fare on the ground, and good too, but
you can't get near it for the crowd.

TOO DF.AK.
At most of the restaurants in the
grounds too big prices are charged en
tirely. At ail our lunch counters 10c
fur a cup of tea or coffee is an outrage,
oc n cup is enough and the traveling
public should insist on this change,
and it would really help the lunch men
if they could only see it.

signed. The building was commenced
in the year of our Lord 1732, find was
occupied by the Congress of the L'nion
from 1775 to 1781. Here we must close,
our Centennial letters. Many of you
will see these things with your own
eyes, and mayhap can tell it better than
I can. All who are interested can find
in Harper's Weekly beautifully illus

the copies of which ought to be bound

SIDE NO I lis OF TIIE FAIR.
Fine Show of Stock from Peter Morses'
and Solomon & Nathan's Establish
ment Show of Apples ami Pre
serves, Fine.
The bad weather Tuesday and Wed
nesday, made the entries to the Fair
comparatively light ; although the en
tries were equal to hist year, there
would undoubtedly have been more, if
weather had been favorable.
On ontei ing the building from the
esir.t, the case of elegant Roots & Shoes
from Peter Merges' ost iblisinent meets
the eye on the right, and the great va
riety of Fancy Goods from Solomon &
Nathan, our fancy goods merchants.
On thu north side was arranged it
fine show and :i great variety of corn.
probably as good corn as ever was
grown.
The show of canned fruits, preserves
ami jellies, was very line. There woro
specimens of bread and butter, and
Ciike in variety. The show of fruit
though not large, was splendid; as
large, an assortment of apples sis could
could be gathered in any State in the
Union. The ladies were represented
in fancy and ornamental work.
The live stock department was well
represented in horses, cattle, and hogs.

theol-1 man's walking match made more
fun than a little. Levi Walker and old
man Mettcer entered for tho race, and
started off shoulder to shoulder at such
a walker(V) Azro Smith said he csilled
that a "shack;" the horsemen called it
a "pace;" we think it must have been
"single-foot." Anyway Wsilker single
footed out on the back stretch, and Met
tcer "racked in home, when blankets
were thrown over both walkists, they
were duly sponged off, watered, and
bandaged, for the next year.
Young ladies equestrianship excited
a good deal of attention, as it always
does; little Miss Gilmore on the grey
pony carried off the prize from the
Misses, as she generally has. The la
dies riding, were Mrs. Metteer, Mrs.
Viall, and Miss Annie Swift. Mrs.
Metteer took 1st preminni. and Miss
Swift 2d premium.
Prof. Ilurlburt then exhibited his
wonderful trained team, driving round
and round, sind turning in most won
derful curlycues over the track in
front of the judges' stand, all without
bridles or lines, simply guiding them

The trotting was very good indeed.
P'our horses entered: Parmele's sorrel
mare, Dan. Johnson's grey horse. Pet
tit's black stallion, and Reese's roan
colt.
They trotted two and two, "Reese and
Johnson horse (Dick Strcight, driver),
went first, and the grey won.
Then I'armole and JVttit tried it,
and the sorrel mare won; time, best
heat, 2:55, which is very good time on
that track.
