THE POLITICAL NUTATION.
In great political campaigns the par

In all that the. Omaha newspapers
have said about Pro-rata there is net
one word against its justice, and the
whole gist of their argument is that
it will possibly remove part of the
transit of freight and passengers from
that city to a point south of Platte
Piver. Xow this point may be Urown
ville, it may be Nebraska City or it
may be Plattsmouth. Any of these
points are likely to receive the whole j project
or a part of the decreased transporta
tion by reason of contracts and com
petition made by the Iowa roads.
This competition itself is what Omaha
like tho other cities named, absolutely
needs, and what its journals have been
loudly calling for, accusing the Iowa
roads of being "cut-throats." &c, xe.
We ask our Omaha friends if the ben
efit to be derived from this competi
tion will not do far more than compen
sate for the loss of a few through pas
sengers and freight at Omaha?
.Aside, however, from the pecuniary
advantages to be obtained by breaking
up the "pool" in Iowa, which this
measure is sure to accomplish, .we
stand up-.m the justice of the demand
for the passage of the Pro rata Pill
now before Congress. The entire
South Platte country has absolutely
been shut out from the markets of the
west by reason of the prohibitory
rates charged bv the V. I. P. It. from
Call It
Kearney westward on ail passengers
and products transported over the P.
& M. P. P. These rates have been ho
high that ihey have positively exclud

A statement of this position, is a

lie is too adroit to enter upoh a discus

It is a question of the rights, and the
