Presbyterian church, after the opening
exercises by the. Kev. .J. T. ll.tird. Mr.
Hayes w as called to the chair, and call
ed on tic Itev. C. McICelvey, who made
a few pointed remarks, after which Mrs.
Newman of Lincoln read a very elo
pier.t cssav. The ladi-s present then
organised a local branch of the Wo
man's National Christian Temperance
Cnion, and elected the following ladies

Four members of the old Nebraska
"First," met not long since in Platts
mouth. "What they said and done,
we'll never tell.
We are requested to say that Mr.
King, of Eight Mile Grove, will have
ample accommodations for both men
and horses at the meeting of the Coun
ty Convention on the 11th.
Dr. Donelan has imported several
barrels of pure native California AVine,
to be used for Medicinal or Sacranmn
tal purposes. It is warranted pure and
is undoubtedly a fine brand.
Mr. D. L. Morrow changes and en
larges hia advertisement in two ways
this week. The linn has grown, Indng
now Morrow Uros., and the ad. increases
to keep pace with the firm and alrfo the
increased amount of business they do.
Mr. Morrow informs us that they in
tend building a new Iilacksrnith and
Machine Shop for a certainty this fall,
and they will build a foundry in the
spring at any rate, and possibly this
fall, if the promise of work will war
rant them in so doing. They have sev
eral lots donated to them, for a foun
dry site conditional upon their build
ing before next May.
We are glad to hear this good news
and to see some little progress in the
direction the IIekali has long point
ed out.

The father of Mr. Draper, of Eight
Mile Grove, has been visiting his son
the past week.
F. Wolcott, our "Weeping Water
neighbor, made glad the heart of the
IIekald man last week.
Our friend Doty still says he's "all
hunk" over on the Iowa bottom, and
though th waters may rage and the
tumps grow fewer and fewer he
still lives.
Frank Stadter is painting a very
handsome picture of "Fremont's Land
Slide," a view-below town here.
Sheriff Cutler's boy, Henry, has been
siending the Fourth of July in August.
The Sheriff says he has two more
pounds of powder he can try his hand
on, if he'll only turn the other side of
his head next time.
Our portly and good natured Miller
Mr. Coon Heisel, gave the new IIkkald
office a call, on Monday.
II. A. Ashburn, of Weeping Water,
called on the IIkkald Monday.
The young Soldiers of Cass paid the
IIekald a vi.sit on Mondiy, armed and
equipped ux the law directs, Sheriff
Cutler called them the "Mulligan
Guards," but they indignantly denied
that title, and say they are "The Ne
braska Sharp Shooters."
Prof. Wightman w ho will take the po
sition of principal of our High School
for the ensuing year, arrived bust week
with his family. "We bid him welcome
to Plattsmouth.
Capt. Donovan appears once more
on our streets, and this time on a fur
lough of some length, we believe. His
many friends will be glad to see him.
We are very much pic: used with the
mechanics of our town lately. They
are waking up grandly, and have shown
real enterprise ami spirit this spring.
They're the fellows to build a town up.
Messrs. II. M. Wells of Crete, editor
of the Saline County Pout, J. II. Culver
of Mil ford, and K. Mclntyre of Seward,
called on the IIekald for a brief space.
They accompanied the excursionists
west. Messrs. Hoyt & Wells of the
Post have issued a supplement to be
distributed among the excursionists,
giving a most excellent description of
the resources of Nebraska.
Maj. Davis, of Ualtimore, is in the
city, looking after his property here.

w hich the editor regrets he was not in
to enjoy. Call again.
Paul Morton, s y. of J. S. Morton, is
visiting Plattsmouth. Paul has grown
wonderfully, and hails from Chicago.

Gentlemen: I herewith claim
damages to the amount of One Hun
dred and Fifty Dollars (8150.00) by
reason of the location of a road across
my land, being the northwest quarter
(nw4) of section thirty-two (32) town
ten (10) range thirteen (13) east, said
road was petitioned for by Tyson and
others. Hoad commences at the north
east corner and ends at the southeast
corner of section thirty-two (32) town
ten (10) range thirteen (13, east.

the large claim for damages set up by
E. Eaton, in amount of 8300.
H. O. Hoback, heretofore appointed
a commissioner to view and reiort
upon the vacation of a road petitioned
for by Elias Forbes and others, made
his report, "and being of the opinion
that the public good requires the pro
posed vacation, would recommend the
vacation of the same." On motion,
William Young was appointed com
missioner to mark, lay out and plat
said road.

on examining the several bids it was
found that Walter J. White was the
