FK03I IOWA.
Bl kdett, Lucas Co.. Iowa, I
August Cth, 1375.
Ed. Herald: A few words from
this part of the State of Iowa may be
of some interest to your readers; con
sequently we assume the responsibili
ty of jotting down a few notes on sul
jects of interest to all. Lucas county
has been blessed with a superabun
dance of rain during the summer,
which lias destroyed tlie crops of all
kinds on the bottom land, and in places
seriously injured those of the upland.
So far as we have observed the corn on
the upland with a few exceptions looks
well and bids fair to yield a good crop
provided the frost will delay to put in
an appearance till late.
The wheat is almost an entire fail
ure, not only in this county but in sev
eral of the adjoining counties Oats
are hea.y and have been injured but
little if any. The same may be said of
the hay crop. Taking everything in
consideraton we consider Nebraska
equal if not ahead of Iowa. And we
advise our farmers in Nebraska to re
main there this coming winter and not
flee to Iowa as they did last winter, for
here they will not find the haven of
rest they seek ; for we can see no ad
vantage this part of Iowa has over Ne
braska, either im wintering their stock
or wintering themselves. Respect fully.
