He is an old friend of the editors family, from Wisconsin, and they recalled many pleasant scenes when they were young together. Mr. Wm. Darrah has mysteriously disappeared from Plattsmouth, and folks do sav he will come back after awhile with a wife. Mr. D. W. McKinnon left Platts mouth on Tuesday last. He intends seeking some more equable climate than Nebraska affords, hoping thereby to benefit his health. We understand he will remain in Utah for a time and then go to Southern California. P. Rowell & Co., New York, is the only establishment of the kind in the United States which keeps itself persistently before the peo ple by advertising in newspapers. They evidently receive their reward. for we have it from a reliable source that advertising orders issued by them for their customers have exceeded three thousand dollars a day since the commencement of the year, and this is not a very good year for adcertisinj either. . i THE TURNERS BALL turned out a motley crew Tuesday eve to fill with gaycty the last hours before the beginning of the sober Lenten Fast The "King of the Cannibal Islands' was there, and Mephistopholes too, with brawny Indians and slouchy, ne groes to keep them company. The Court fool enlivened the audience, and a nun reduced it to the properly solemn state. Kings added dignitv to the scene and Queens supported the beauty of the court. Monks bestowed upon the audience a blessing. A muscular Ro man stalked amid the assembly and Pages, Flower Girls, Highlanders and Peasant maidens glided to and fro, and filled up the vacant spacs. Many more characters were there than we have space to mention and . the mazes of the dance posessed for all the same attraction, and reduced them to a com mon leveL We have not learned if the ball was a success financially but as there seem ed to be a large number present wjg pre sume it was. George Ryeliart, one of the oldest settlers in the county, died on Satur day last.
