If the city Council do not take some
measurers to stop the infernal din of
cow bells and dogs nights in this town,
the Herald will see if there is no
other legal process that will compel
decent quiet on our streets nights. It
has come down to square business with
us; troubled at best to ever get a good
night's rest, the late pandemonium of
nuisances is hurting both our health
and our business, and we demand re
lief from the city authorities. If they
do not aee fit to make this a fit town
for human lieings to sleep in we shall
try some higher authority. The State
guarantees us protection for health
and property, and the city taxes us
enough to insure us both for that matter.
OUR WEEPING WATER LETTER.
Weeping Water, July 4th, 1874.
Dear Herald: It would seem
from the non-apiearancc of communi
cations from this part of the county,
that the celebrated Weeping Water
had run dry, but be it known to your
numerous readers that enough water
still runs in its channel to turn three
excellent mills in our neighborhood,
besides several more lower down to
wards the Old Muddy, and there are
plenty of writers for the Herald if
they only had the spare time.
The ground is very dry at present,
but crops of all kinds look promising,
wheat will soon do to harvest, and
corn is coming forward finely ; fruit is
seen in abundance wherever there
are trees of sufficient size and age to
bear.
Our County Commissioners have
been through this part of the county
and left their mark in the shape of a
number of good substantial bridges,
all of which are A No. 1. We think
the present board of commissioners
will be known in history as the bridge
building commissioners of the nine
teenth century.- This as well as other
improvements must enhance the value
of our lands and make old Cass county
a very desirable county to locate and
reside in, in fact when we get good
roads, good bridges, good school houses
and good meeting houses, we shall al
most begin to think we are away down
east again, and we shall rejoice with
exceeding great joy. .
The cause of temperance is not a
lost cause, there aro evident signs of
life and action, the old pioneers of
temperance are up and dressed, ready
to take the field whenever it is neces
sary ; our watch-word being this, "Vice
of all kinds must be repulsed and
never be permitted to spread and
reign predominant over this fair land
of ours."
S. I'. Hardy.

Health's Khield and Proteetloa.
Health is universally admitted to be the most
desirable of earthly blessing, yet It Is Jeopard
ed as recklessly as if it were of no value at all.
Thousands who are compelled by their occupa
tions and pursuits to breath unwholesome air, to
expose themselves to violent alternations of
heat and eold. and to brave other evils inimical
to health and life utterly neglect to fortify
themselves against the danger which surround
them by proiier course of tonic treatment. For
many years it has beeu a public fact, undenied
even by the martinets of the medidal profes
sion, that Hostetter's Stomach Bitters Is the
best auttdote to malaria and the finest acclimat
ing medicate In existence. In fever and ague
districts, in tropical and other regions visited
by epidemics, and indeed in all localities where
the conditions are unfavorable to health, thi
famous vegetable Invignrant and alterative has
been found a potent safeguard even to feeble
constitutions aiul fragile frames : while as a
cure for indigestion, biliousness and all kindred
complaints It is confessedly without a rival.
