We feci confident that there is sufficient ability in our ranks to make this column such a stimulus b we need. Fellow teachers, if you turn your back upon it and coldly wish it to die you deserve to be anathematized and placed under the ban of the profession. Members of the various School Boards are Informed that their aceistanco will be thankfully received. Practical thoughts on practical subjects from prac tical men are needed. Dear Frfcmls and Co-Laborers in the Held of Education : The Holidays are approaohing with flying feet, and now the query arises, ' "How shall the teachers spend the com ing vacation?" Some of the energetic fellow laborers, anticipating this inter rogation, and knowing the great need of our county, held a meeting recently, and organized a "Teacher' Association," which wi!l hold its Srsl uieetinz between Christinas and New Year's. Last year, in Nov., tho teachers of Cass held a meeting under tho supervuion of the County Superintendent, during which they laid a foundation of a superstruc ture for f elf-improvement, that bade fair to be a noble edifice ; but for reasons that all probably understand, and cir cumstances that were unavoidable, sub sequent meetings were poorly attended, and the walls of tha edifice have re ceived but slight addition?. How, then, can we epend cur vacation more pleas antly or moro profitably thau in attend ing the meeting of the Association ? Let us inform our "young ideas" that they can "shoot" tt random for a week, put the switch behind the black-board, hang the rusty tin cup on its nail, close the door on its creaking hinges shake the dust from our weary feet, rejoice in the thought that we are free for a week. And then let us make the best use of our time in improving ourselves and oth ers, where possible, in the art of teach ing. There are many teachers in the county, probably, m ho are teaching their Irt school. Weil qualified, they may i, but they are bnt tyros ia the art, ui must every day meet with difficul ties they havo sot yet learned how to overcome, with, doubts, concerning methods, which they can cct solve. To such, the lectures and suggestions of ex perienced teachers will certainly prove invaluable id tLcy may thus acquire in a few days knowledg of methods of teaching and governing that they wid otherwise acquire only by yenrs of trial and experience. To experienced teach ers the meeting of the Association will prove beneficial, as suljects will be dis cussed upca which eveu ihe experienced differ; and many a wife pedagogue, we have no doubt, will return to his fchool after the session of the Association, feeling that ho has in the progress of time, bccoaie a little oi l foggyiah ; and that the lively discussions of the Asso ciation have rubbed the dust f.oin tli: cepter with which he governs; and the dust from the page of his brain, whereon be has jotted down, from time to time, liia methods- of ioftrution, bo that as he reads them over he will softly whis per, "A little too old fashioned." Hoping to see every teacher of Cass present at the paeetiog of. the Associa tion, we wait with patience the coming vacation, when we shall have such a glo- jimr r ucioa a Css Las never known.- I CAUTIOST.
