C. II. KING. Secretary. 7H3 T2SA723-T702S AND FLAT. Unce upon a time, ye h Jitor was a boy. Oh 1 how long it seems now, (and did a little fine clerking in a fancy dry goods store iu the city of New York). How we did have to work too, in those days. You western boys know nothing about work ; from seven o'clock in the morning, until eleven, ', aud sometimes twelve, at night, we had to stand be hind the counter in come shape, for no stools, chairs, or easy lounges were pro vided for clerks in those days, and the poor, leg-weary chap, who bad ventured to sit down for a moment, during woik hours, would have received his discharge from the "shop-walker" at once. One t-hoit hour we were supposed to have, for dinner and black looks if a customer came in wi ile' we were out, or if we didn't make it in three-quarters of the time really, and one night out a tceelc, for each clerk. We took turns on that business, and that night, our night, was ooked to as a small heaven of rest, each week. Where do you suppose we spent it ? Going to church. Not much, gene rally. That poor little one night a week was mighty apt to be spent at the Thea tre, (remember we were young then, good folks), and Johnny Brougham was a prime favorite, we can tell you. A rich, unctious, jolly Irishman hr made on the boards. Both himself and the plays he wrote were very popular, and with good cause, for both have proved a success to author and manager. It was one of John Brougham's best plays, "The Game of Love," that the Selden Ibwin Troupe gave the citi zens of Plattsmouth last night. It as much wittier, and pleasanter, than their Arrah ua Pogue," and the Irishman, the play, if he does bis duty, will kape ye roariu . It would hardly be of any use to tell our young folks to go and see the game of Love, for we observe that most of them understand the thing already pret ty weh and we doubt if even an artist. iko Selden Irwin, can teach them a in that tine. fl 0?
