The transfer boat, President, is able
to cross from 120 to 150 cars a day at
her new landiugs. This is a big saving

and at twenty-fivo cents a bushel in
smaller lots-
The recent County-seat election, in
Richardson County, resulted in a victory
for Falls City. What will become of
Buell and his "two papers" now?
Leonard has sent a house to Water-
oo, already framed ready to put up. It
went by rail to the end of the track, and
from thence will be hauled by wagons.
Attorney General Roberts has decided
to enter the lecture field this winter, and
we understand his subject will bo "The
Salt Lands of Nebraska, and how Mor
ten got 'em.
The Salt Lake Tribune says the Mor
mons will not leave Utah, as some seem
to think, but that they will submit to
tho will of the government in regard to
polygamy.

We learn that one of the men engaged
in crossing the large drove of cattle over
thi river last week was severely injured

Prof. L. W. Pete, of Weeping Water,
is opening a fine farm adjoining that
thriving village. lie is a practical hor
ticulturist and agriculturist, as well as
a man of letters and an excellent teacher.
About one hundred passengers arrived
by tne morning train trom the east.
Some stopped in our city, and many
went farther west to seek homes, busi
ness locations, and to pee the country.
An item is going the rounds of the
press of the State to the effect that his
acting Excellency, W. II. James, will
call an extra session of the Legislature
for the coming winter.
The Democracy of Richardson have
kicked Buell and his "two papers" out
of the party, so says the Omaha Tamma
ny organ. Is not there a slight mistake?
Has not Buell kicked the Democratic
party out of his two papers?
We have received the first number of
"Mackey's National Freemason," a
monthly magizine devoted to the inter
ests of "the craft." It should be in the
hands of every mason who desires to
keep posted, and who desires to ex
tend his knowledge in masonry.
A vote was taken in Sewart County,
at the recent election, on the location of
the County-scat, which resulted in
large majority in favor of Seward. The
people of Millford claim that there was
no law for the election, and that it will
be contested.
Conrad Hcisel, of this City, had a
psmple of flour, of his own manufacture,
on exhibition at the recent Fair, which
was exceedingly fine. lie was too late
to enter it for a premium, but it was
well worthy of commendation. Heise
makes a first-class article.
Don t fail to attend the Sheriff's sal
on Saturday, at 10 o'clock, a. m., at
Frank White's Auction room, corner of
Main & 6th streets, where a large lot of
dry goods, groceries, hardware, cutlery.
&c, will be sold by the Sheriff. There
wiil be bargains for any one wishing such

Some people are slandering (?) Col.
Tom. Majors by saying that he worked
against the Republican ticket in Nemaha
County at the recent election, and that
he ought not to do so while he is a
Federal office holder under a Republi
can administration and a member of the
Republican State Central Committee.

ment stand kept by Guthinan and IIu
berty. They were to a very heavy ex
pense in procuring the proper goods, and
getting everything in shape, and deserve
the thanks of every citizen of the Coun
ty for their efforts to "fill the bill."
They had almost everything you could
call lbr in the way of refreshments, and
we heard many per.-ous say they had the
let rvfre.-hment staud they had ever
seen in the west.
Cass is the only river County in the
State that elected a "clean" Republican
ticket at the recent election. We may
have little differences among ourselves
about who shall be candidates, etc., but
those things are all settled in Conven
tion, and the nominees are supported
with a hearty good will even by those
who do not secure their choice of candidates-
This is the only true method, for
any other would result in the dismem
berment of any and all parties. Strive
lonestly in the Convention for you
choice, and then abide the decision of
the majority. Let other Counties take
a lesson from Cass.
It is said the City Council have not
acted on the avenue question because
the city was not in a financial condition
to open them and grade them properly.
This may be all correct, and yet we fail
to see why the legal steps may not be
taken to open these avenues, and let the
work be done ' when the city is in a con
dition to do it.
We were honored this morning by a
call from Mr. Thomas Keddy, of the
Peterborough ( Eng. ) Times. Mr. Ked
dy takes much interest in Nebraska, and
has made the journey from England here
for the purpose of seeing for himself
the country about which he has pub-
ished so many glowing accounts. When
he returns he wi'l be able ta state with
certainty that which he only knew by
hearsay before coming.
Information wanted concerning Junius
Pillsbury, a young man from Minnesota,
He was in Lincoln in December last.
Had been with a hunting-party, and was
going out again. On bchali of tho
friends of Mr. Pillsbury, this information
is sought by L. B. Fifield, pastor of the
Congregational church, Lincoln, Neb.
The south half of Main street bridge
is about completed, and the almost uni
versal opinion seems to be that it i
abundantly large and will last for at least
twelve or fifteen years. At the expira
tion of this time Plattsmouth will be
able to put in a more permanent struct
ure without feeling the burthen of ex
pense as she would at the present time.

The Seward Atlas, a remarkably en
terprising (?) journal, contains the fall
owing bit of very important news:
"We learn by a private letter that the
entire Democratic ticket of Cas county
has been elected by a good round ma-

cheering as Cass county has long been
under the rule of the Republican party.
She now throws off the shackles and
takes a long stride forward iu the march
of progress and reform."

Some of our citizens are somewhat
down in the mouth since the defeat of
the rai!ro d bonds in Otoe and Cass
counties. They are inclined to think

The bonds were not defeated in Cass
county, although they were in Otoe. In
accordance with our proposition the
Company have until the first day of
January next to accept our aid, which
gives time for a new effort in Otoe, which
should certainly be made. The success
of this enterprise now rests entirely with
Otoe county, and we hope she will
do something.
A rumor prevails at Chicago, that Hen
ry J. Ullman, the Banker, was murdered
instead of having been suffocated by fire.

railways are already projected to drain the business for many miles into this Maiu
Artery ; all which prove conclusively that no better opening for
Safe and Profitable Investment,
can be found than by securing Real Estate and good homes in this most promising
city. PLATTSMOUTH is connected by rail with Lincoln, an 1 the interior towns
of a rapidly settling section of the finest Agricultural lands in the West. It has
connection with nil the towns on the river, above and below it, and all the main
cities east and west. Chicago is only 22 hours distant, while St. Louis is but 24.
Competition in transportation between river and railway insures cheap freights to
St Louis, while three roads to Chicago keep down exhorbitant rates in that direc
