The ren lition of this difficult cantata
last Saturday evening, at Fitzgerald's
Hall, by the Plattsinouth Musical A-so
iation, was a perfect success, iar sur
passing the expectations of the most
.sanguine. Mis.s Ella Crocker, as Queen,
outdid her-elf, especially in the closing
serene, where she rendered one of the
most difficult solos of the performance.
The character of Belshaz.ar was admira
bly rendered by T. W. Evans, while
Rev. Fo.-ter woull almost delude one
into the belief that he was the original
Daniel who interpreted the "hand writ
ing on the wad." Too much praise can
not be be.-towed upon Mr. Richard New
el, who Had charge of the musical de
partmen, and Mrs. J. C. Baker, to whom
belongs the credit of the dramatic ar
inriffenu t.t of the niece. When we ccn-

sidcr that this performance was entirely
of home talent, developed by a home
teacher, wo cannot but say that Platts
mouth boasts as fine musical talent as
can be found anywhere. We would be
pleased to speak of each individual who
took part in the performance, of Satur
day evening could we do so without do
ing injustice to any ; but where each one
rendered their part so near perfection it
is difficult to give the proper mead of
praise to each as an individual. The
large hall was well tilled, and the pro
ceeds of the single entertainment were
about $80. This will defray all expenses
and leave a reasonable sum to be ex
pended for music, etc., by the Associa
tion. We hope they will continue the
good work they have commenced under
such favorable auspices.
