It is sta'cd that Col. Noteware, "f

against the constitution in two precincts
of Saunders county, and in one of the
precincts there were four votes apainst

unanimous for it. Judge Sprague was

Well, if they ha ve not, they have wor

The B. !t M. Co. have commenced
the construction of a landing for their

Thcv will also change the landing on

Nebraska is now recognized as the ban
ner fruit State of the Union, and she
well merits the proud distinction. Not
withstanding, the terrible destruction of
fruit in this locality by the hail, there is
ye t an abundance of fine fruit here. B.
F. llnbbs, Esq. of Rock' Bluffs, has pre
sented the Herald otli-e wit a a speci
men o f peaches (the mo,t difficult fruit
to produce in the State) which will com
pare favorably w th anything in the
Union. They arc a fine flavored, deli
cious fruit, and one of those brought us
weighs leu ounces. Who beats it?
PAWXEE NOT ElElilO FKOM.
Reni-rts from Pawnee county are still
conflicting, some claiming that it has
given -it):) for the constitution while oth

returns from that county with interest,
i'..r lit.on it seems to hang the fate of the
constitution.

The articles on "Our Public Sc hools,"

The ren lition of this difficult cantata
last Saturday evening, at Fitzgerald's
Hall, by the Plattsinouth Musical A-so
iation, was a perfect success, iar sur
passing the expectations of the most
.sanguine. Mis.s Ella Crocker, as Queen,
outdid her-elf, especially in the closing
serene, where she rendered one of the
most difficult solos of the performance.
The character of Belshaz.ar was admira
bly rendered by T. W. Evans, while
Rev. Fo.-ter woull almost delude one
into the belief that he was the original
Daniel who interpreted the "hand writ
ing on the wad." Too much praise can
not be be.-towed upon Mr. Richard New
el, who Had charge of the musical de
partmen, and Mrs. J. C. Baker, to whom
belongs the credit of the dramatic ar
inriffenu t.t of the niece. When we ccn-
r- . ,
sidcr that this performance was entirely
of home talent, developed by a home
teacher, wo cannot but say that Platts
mouth boasts as fine musical talent as
can be found anywhere. We would be
pleased to speak of each individual who
took part in the performance, of Satur
day evening could we do so without do
ing injustice to any ; but where each one
rendered their part so near perfection it
is difficult to give the proper mead of
praise to each as an individual. The
large hall was well tilled, and the pro
ceeds of the single entertainment were
about $80. This will defray all expenses
and leave a reasonable sum to be ex
pended for music, etc., by the Associa
tion. We hope they will continue the
good work they have commenced under
such favorable auspices.

HENRY BOECK
DtALLR IS
F U R N 1 T U R I:
The Brownville Advertiser, under the
management of Maj Caffrey, gives a
terrible war-whoop over the supposed
defeat of the new constitution, as fol
lows :
'The long struggle is over. The
voice of the sovereigns has been given
expression to. and the constitution pre
pared i'or them by hands itching for
plunder and hearts eager for the emolu
ments of place, has been buried under
fully three thousand majority in the
State. Glory enough for one day."
"Hearts ca-rer for the emoluments of
place " is good when applied to the body
of gentlemen selected, as a rule, lor
the r personal worth, and without l t ga'U
to party polities: but "hands ltchni-- lor
plunder," when applied to the same
body of men is perfectly delightful, and
will be appreciated (no doubt properly
so) by the great ma-s of the people who
voted for these gentlemen. But "buried
I under fully three thousand majoiity'' is
just the least bit weak in our brother ot
the quill, considering the facts. Hold
on. Maj , don't start out too brash il'yu
expect to run more than a '"quarter
stretch."
