This fact is conceded by people everywhere. We publish, to-day, tho full text of the general Herd law. Mr. Lyman's new house approaches completion. When finished this will be one of the Gncst residences in the city. The Waterloo town company have is hued photogiaphic plats of the town. Something like two hundred wagons loaded with wheat and corn unloaded in the city yesterday. The I. O. O. E. Lodge of this city have changed their nicht of regular meetings from Thursday to Saturday. Members of the Order will take notice. A post mortem examination was made of the body of John Ireland, who died suddenly at Eastport, opposite Nebraska Cit3 recently; and who is supposed to have been poisoned. The contents of his stomach have been sent to LVof. Douglas, of Ann Arbor, Mich., for ana lytical examination, and the wife of the decea.cd is held, under arrest, to await the report. The citizens association of Leaven worth have in contemplation an excur sion trip to this city. We will use you well. The Chrnnich: thinks the Constitution al Convention should fini.-h its labors in side of "a week or two," and offer the people a first class document. We hear some talk among farmers that spring wheat is likely to be injured by rust. We shall keep watch of the matter and record the facts from time to time. Mr. Wni. There is no man in the State doubts that the present Board will ex pend the money to the very host advan tage possible, and that the State will get the best building that the money can produce. HETIIODINI tOI.I.F(.F.. The people of Ashland are makine an effort to secure the location of the above naui'.d institution at that place, and a proposition has been made them by the locating committee. The Times savs: "We understand that it is proposed to estabi'sh in Ashland the Nebraska Methodist College, with preparatory de partments, male and female. THE ITIU.IC IIIf.EIUATS. On various occasions during the past six years the Hkkai.d has called atten tion to tho bad condition of the public thoroughfares leading to the ci ty, and very many times the Hkkai.d has be come tited of harping upon this theme without seeing any great amount of good accomplished thereby. We do be lieve there is no other city in the State that has such poor roads leading to it as I'luttsmouth. We especially desire to csll attention of the authorities to the mi.-erable condition of the road by which the city is reached from the southwest one of the principal thoioughfares of the county. Wc refer particularly to the piece of road just south cf Mr. Max well's farm, where a saddle blanket would mire with half a chance. It is a disgrace to the city and county that this piece of road ehould be allowed to re main in its present bad condition for so long a time as it has, and we certainly hope that something wii! be done soon to place it in better repair. The com mercial interests of the city suffer largely from this neglect to keep roads in repair, and it would pay the merchan's and grain dealers of the city to have the roads kept in good order if the proper authorities do not attend to it. THE I'IC-JI-C Of the Presbyterian Sabbath School held yesterday, in a. grove near the northwestern portion of the city, was a much enjoyed affair. The tables were loaded with cakes and candies, pies and sandwiches, and delicacies too numerous to meu 10 1. Iced lemonade was manu factured in a barrel, and all helped itif liftitum. Icecream was dispensed in smaller quantities. Every cue had an abundance of the good things, and then there was an abundan lance left after some of the naughty boys pelted each other with considerable pieces of de licious cakes which they were unable to di-pose of in the u-ual way. The siins souci manner in which all sought enjoyment was very notable; while some were practicing gymnastics on the horizontal bar, thkee cr four other par ties were liying through t:.e a r with perfect ulxtivbinr. in or on the swings, and others were playing croquet, quoits or pin or exhibited their equestrian ac accomplishments in horseback riding. All ages were represented from the in fant in its mother's arms to the aged grandsire, and all, without exception, seemed to feci 'hat it was good to be there, and ali doubtless cau look back with pleasure to the day they spent in the grove, in perfect, indifference to the cares which ab-orb so much of out time iu our every day lifo in town. It is wel to assemble oursfclvss together frequently in this truly democratic and republic--.!! style, and unbend ourselves an I In-come as little children aia;n an 1 sho.v our children how to prefer the enjoyment of each other, and how toas-emble together in unison of spirit and a brotherhood of peaceful reunion. The day was lovely, the com pan" was large, and nothing occurred to mar the festivities of the oc.a-ion. 'All nature laughs, the grove are fresh and fair The sun's inilu lu-dro warms the vital air ; In spring, the fieldsin autumn, hills I lore. At morn, tho plains at uoou the eh.uly grove ; See what delights iu rylran scenes appear. Tho heathen gods have found Elysium there." Iowa It'iiiocrnc-r-. From tho Glenwood Opinion. Th Democracy of Iowa have swal lowed the Vullandighani platform. The old codgers had a hard dose of it, but they worried it down. Hence the De mocracy admit they have been lying for the pat lew years; that what the ite pubhean party has done for the country is the best. They accept the situation 'hit is. they say they do- They have fought a big right, but they have not kept the taith. They have gone back on theii old time-honored principles, and swallowed a llepubliean dose. For a few years they have been saying thelle construclion Acts were uip on-titmioiial and void. Now they ay they licit then, and that they ate not tmconstituf i'-nai and void They have been saying that the 13ih, 14th and 5th Amenduieuts were revolutionary and void. Now they say they were lying th' n, and tht tho-e Amendments were fiO'i things and they are part of the Constitution. Nice fel lows : They constitute a heavy part o! honest, substantial, consistent men tor the control of the country. The Gov ernment would be fearfuliy safe in the hands of such men. Arresied, Trlol and fined. Mr. John Shellcross, who has been teaching school i'i the Ward school bouse, iu 'his county, wa ar.stel n Thursday and brought to tiial before Justice Ilieht. The charge brought against !:in was for cruelly and inhuman ly whipping one of his scholars. He was ariested by Mr. Stnawiy, lather of the girl whipped, and the witnesses, as examined by Mr. J.
