E. M. Marsnan, Esq:, Division Su perintendent for this State of Wells, 'argo & Co.'s Express, was in the city to day looking after the affairs of the company. The pamphlet was pvin'cd at the AJcrrttser office, and is a neat job. Our Fillmore correspondent rejoices muchly over the B-it M. R. II., and thinks the Herald has a cord of sym pathy with him. You are right, friend "Ahnz." The Herald "rejoices with tho?e that rejoice, and weeps with those that weep," when their joy or sorrow is or a worthy object, as in this case. Two mountain boats passed up the river yesterday evening. The Jonrnul reported If 2 cases in the B. & M. yards at Lincoln last Monday. Not bad fir a town in the heart of the "Great American Desert." There seems to be a general complaint of the scarcity of money, but the uni versal verdict is that business is better in Plattsrnouth than in any other city in the west. E. G. Dovey delivers goods free to any part of the city. The name of the company headed by Cart. E. B. Murphy, which left for the west a few days since, is the "Arapahoe Town Company." Fitzgerald has a force of laborers at work tlearing away the trash from his recent purchase of forty acres in the south west part of the city Tt does one good these dull times to step into the cheap cash srore of D. Schnasse & Co and see the piles of goods they are selling every day. Schnasse and LcnhofF are ve ry popular men, and then they are fair men to deal with. The Great Western Telegraph Co have the polc3 set between this city and Omaha, and are pushing ahead toward Nebraska City and St. Joseph. They will probably have the wires up and an office opened in a few days. We have a word to say to our citizens, not by way of condemning but merely as a Fusgestion, that, when immigrants pass through our city on thoir way to settle up the fertile regions of our State, let us not hesitate nor weary in givinc: them all the information they desire in regard to our country. A word of en couragement, spoken in time, micrht be the instrument of bringing many more to our State. We should not be so en tirely absorbed in our bu-iness that, when an immigrant asks us in regard to our soil, climate, our future prospects, or what not, we thould give them a hasty answer and pass on. The itumi grant wants encouragement, and we should give it to them at all times. Thev arc "stransers in a strange land." and if we do not stop long enough to cive them an encouraging word when they ak ;t. how must we expect them to got it? We are all desirous of eneouraaincr emi gration to our State, but after they land on our oil are we not too prone to neg lect them and their many wants? "West ward the star of empire wends her way." We were vexed at the jumbl-j made by the jumarts who undertook to lead in the county organization, but our anger, caused by their stupid blunders, has all subsided, and we rejoice with joy un speakable enthusiastic joy ! In a few days we can cro.-s the street, take a seat in one of Pullman's Palace Cars, of the B. & M. Railroad, which will land us in five and a half days on the front steps of the dear old family mansion, in the Old Bay State. It is sixteen j'ears since our step was la-t heard in t he halls of that dear old Home. Father, mother, sister and brother, are sleeping beneath tho weeping willow. Yet, we long to tread those halls once more. We long to sit by mother's grave, and ween tears of repentance for youthful fohies, aud there receive fresh fortitude for coming life. Through all these long years of care and strife we have never forgotten the friends nor home of our youth. And oh ! how earnestly we have wished for the day to dawn when we could take the cars in Fillmore county, Nebraska, for the old home in Ma-sachuetts. Wc now see the dawning of that lung wished for day, and we rejoice. We lelieve there is a chord in the heart of the Her ald which vibrates with the finest emo tions, and in unison with our own, when touched by the finger of progression and development, such as is exhibited by the energetic people of Nebraska. Your respectfully, An.tz. Fillmore County, May 9, 1S71. KOS OF TEJH'l'nSt E. La-t night a number of our citizens assembled at Clark & Piummcr's Hall for the purpose of organiz ng a Lodge of the Sons of Temperance. Nothing was done further than discussing the propriety of having such an organization in our place, and other matters of iuterest pertaining to the same. This Lodge, as we understand it, is not to coflict with the Order of Good Templars in any respect, but simply to have an organiza tion of this kiul in this place to still further the cause of Temperance. Its terms are liberal, and its workings of the most systematic kind. An officer will be here in a few weeks to organize, perma nently, the Lodge. We wish our citi zens who have the matter in hand success in their undertaking. heavy iumm:ss. The freight and passenger business over the B. & M. in Nebraska is increas ing very rapidly. Their rolling stock is all pressed into use, and even the passenger trains are often compelled to attach freight cars as was the case this morn ing. FIRST Willi) S IlOOi..
