This faith's far seeing eye looks be
yond the confines of the tomb, and in
that ''beautiful land" sees the sainted
ipirits of departed loved ones, clothed iu
fpotless white, standing before tho great
white throne, crying, "worthy the lamb
that was slain, yet livcth again," while
waving palms of victory as they cast
their golden crowns at the feet of Him
who died on cavalry. It sees that dar
ling infant, a cherub, in the arms of Je
8U3. It sees that dear father and mother
Eitting beneath the tree of life, happy in
the full enjoyment of the end of their
faith. It sees that loving brother and
fond sister hand in hand walking the
golden streets of the celestial city. The
soul that has this faith dreads not the
tomb; but when the Master calls, claps
its glad win, and shouting victory !
flies away to that glorioit3 home where
flowers forever LIooiu and where sin and
sorrow never come.
The lack of this faith in lively eicr
cife " deny hell, and kindled all it"
bounds with wrath and inextitiguishable
fire." Love God, love truth, love vir

An Fnglish writer speaks of China as
a country where the roses have no fra
grance and the women no petticoats;
where the laborer has no Sabbath, and
the magistrate nosene of honor ; where
thc ro:-,i, 1;ave no v0l,;eVs and the ship:
no keels; where the old men fly kites
where the needle points to the south.
and the sign of being puzzled is to
scratch the antipodes of the head;
where the place of honor is cn the left
hand, and the feat of intellect is in ihe
stomach: whereto take oft" your hat is
an insolent gesture, and to wear white
garments is to put yourself in mourning:
where there i a literature without an
alphabet, an 1 a language without a gram
mar. The London Church Review tells how
to tla.-sify person: according to their
proper peological strata, on siht. It
says : '"When wo see a parson we in
stinetively look at his neck, and we sum
him up accordingly. There are p arsons
with cravats and collars; these are, as a
rule, Low Church. There are paixms
with cravats and no collars: these are as
a rule, High Church. And there are
parsons with collars and no cravats ;
these are. as a rule, Broad Chur -h We
do not,- of course, pretend that this is r.n
exact classification, but the distinctions
are sufficiently accurate for general pur
poses." An amusing incident occurred last
week in the morning train going west
from Bichmond on the Chesapeake and
Ohio Railroad. As the train entered
the Blue Bidire tunnel at Rockbridge
Gap, one mile in length, a passenger
sought to avail himself ot the three minutes'-
friendly darkness for the purpose
of ehamrimr. his linen. It so chanced
that the clean shirt was stihly starched,
and the sulfates refused to part compa
ny, and as the train emerged into .lay
light, the unhappy and unshirte 1 until
was franiica'ly endeavoring to thrust his
bare arms through the refractory sleeves.
