Kansas City, Mo., has had an ordin
ance enacted aainst public bell-ringing
as a means of attracting people, the law
being cmr loyed to suppress a noisy auc
tioneer. Suiuciect care was not taken
in arranging the enactment, and the bell
icose auctioneer has now suppressed all
the church bell.
The State Journal is now printed on
a Taylor Country Cylinder press. The
Herald hopes to follow suit as soon as
possible.

Several gentlemen in attendance on
the Methodist State Convention have fa
vored the Herald office with a call dur
ing their stay in the city. Among them
we were particularly pleased to meet
Hon. Geo. Vv . Frost of Omaha, Hon.

S. Alexander of Nebra-ka City, and
Rev. II. T. Davis of Liucoln. We are
always pleased to converse with such
men upon measures calculated to benefit

mouth would get "taken in out of the

About one year since a person from
the top of the Atvrool House counted
the number of buildings within the cor
porate limits of Lincoln and found it to
contain about 1 25. A few days since the
same per.-on made another ascension, and
as near as can be calculated Lincoln now
contains 415 buildings. It is safe to es
timate 7 people for each house, and this
v.iil give us a population of 3,105.

General M. JcfF. Thompson is now on
a visit to St. Joseph, Missouri, the first
since the war. He was at one time
Mayor of that city. He is at urcscnt a
resident of New Orleans, and is Chief
Engineer of the S:ate of Louisiana, su

We saw to-day, a very fine specimen
of the celebrated Lattica tobacco plant,
raised by Mr. Azro Smith, of Rock
Bluffs.
We are informed by farmers in differ
ent carts of the county that crops are
looking rell, and that wheat will make
a iair crop wunout any more ram.

the Court House during the past two
days, obtaining the evidence in the Pow
ers-Rakes murder trial, consequently
