Pcldatcr has removed his jewelry establishment to the northwest corner cf Main and Fourth streets. It is said that three hundred tons of fish have been taken from Salt Lake this spring. The Atchison and Nebraska railroad is under contract toj the Statu line, seven miles from llulo, and is to be pushed through to that poif't its mediately. Some of the young folks of cur city had a dance on the steamer Majill last evening, while she vas lying at our land ing. We fre informed by an item in the Omaha that the X'lattsmouth post cSiee will hereafter be a ''IV'-si dontial" office with a salary of $1,400. This is a very good time for mttkiug a chance. Lincoln and Brownville - are also ma le "Presidential" offices. A professional gentleman arrived from Omaha this morning, with an emblem of his profession suspended from his watch guard. Policeman Williams has his eye on him, and may be able to "do some thing for him" bofore ho gets away from town. ?Ir. Young, of the firm of Goodwin .t Young, of A'-hlan 1, was in the city this morning. We learn from hiai that three two-story buinss houses will be evened inimodme'y on Main street, formini: a verv nice block. Thev are to be erected by thtj f jllowing swntiemen : Goodwin & Young, Mr. Sanborn, and Mr. Bond, and will adjoin the present building of Messrs. Lunger it Reynolds. Ashland is flourishing. A special di-f atch from Lincoln says $40,UH) worth of lots were sold at date. Ih Livingston, of this city, was ap pointed a committee of one, by the Stale Medical Society, to report at the next meeting of the Society on the question of feign I insanity. We are pleased to see the State Medical Society taking hold of this subject, a-j there are too many por-or.s now a-daj-s who feign insanity to cover up crime. J. S. Morton's political corps lies buried beneath the ruins of t'no Ae- and Dr. Miller, of the Omaha JJerahl, is "very near to him." Pis. Pinney and Lowe, of Omaha, R-nn r, of Nebraska City, and John Black, of Plattsmouth, wore chosjii at the meeting of the State Medical SocL y to represent that body at the Amerhau Medical Association, which meets at San Fraucisoo, next year. It is amusing to watch the scrambling of teamsters and the cunning of grain dealers to get the "iirst cur" to load with grain. The 15. & M. R. K. is taxed to iis utmost capacity, and is not, thn, able : j carry the grain from here as fast as the market demands. What wili it be in two or thrc-j years from this date? Verily, Plattsuiouth is the great grain centre of the wjst. Our reporter lot his notes on the pig eon match yesterday we rather guei-s he v.-io not there and consequently we can not give the particulars as promised. OHieer Williams arrested a man last niaht. between one and two o'clock, who had probably drark a few glares of r-er more than wasaOsolutely necessary. !Ic was releastid on the guaranty of a re-.-ponsifcla citizen that he "appear before his Honor this morning. He uppoare-d, rheenso wnexamined into by his Honor, Recorder Cooper; and the prisoner was discharged. The prisoner, (who by the way, is a very good, citizen of the town, bit unknown to oSicer Williams), and his friends felc aggrieved and had Williams brought before Ilis Honor, Judge Child, on a charge of Ax.-ault and Battery, in that he had handled the prisoner rouedily while making the arrest. V.'heu the time for examination arrived, the prosecution o Cored to withdraw the case, but Mr. Williams in-i.-tcd on an ex amination. Before cksing the case, however, the prosecution did abandon it. and the Judge gave an une-Iucial talk tu the parties, wherein he expatiated upon the fact that citizens did not, at-ai! tics, pay proper heed to the police officers, hence misunderstandings occasionally aro-e. Wo know comparatively little of oilicer V"i!!iams, yet we are of opinion that he will prove an excellent officer; and that if citizens will answer him civ iliy when accosted by him at an unrea sonable hour of night, and their ttoriea hang togc'.her, they will have no reason to complain of mistreatment from him. It in u-t be remembered that Mr. Wil- liaiuio. a 'comparative stranger in the place, and often does not know a peacea ble citizen from one wh has evil iuU.-nt, especially -when he meets them at a late hour of night." We need ju.-t such posi tive, determined men as Mr". Williams, on the police force of this city, and then one feels safe in passing through our .streets after dork. If we had a bet of ouicera who wore timid, irresolute, and afraid of "cijjii-ii" somebody, we whlh. we have such men as Williams there is no fear. 1I proposes to know whj men are and what they aro about, when found in tho streets at a late hour, and citizen.; who are out' on legitimat bu-ia;-ss will have no difu-.ulty if they will answer his ii.miirics civilly. He not only ber.ts all Nebraska on the beautiful, but he goes in on the useful" as well. He brought a quantity of new potatoes to the Herald office this morning. The "unkindest cut of all" is that eiven by a Lincoln correspondent of a Nebraska City paper. He closes a short letter with the brief but significant en ,.iiry : "What about the 31. P. It. It. ? The Nebraska City Chronicle promises to appear- next Sunday morning as 'a thittv-two column paper. That looks he'aithy. Do all the "contemplated lines" to hatuburg expect bonds from Otoe? JIarricd, at the residence of the bride's father, iu this city, on the evening of the Oih inst., by Rev. J. G- Miller, Mr. J Newt. Hays, editor of the Fremont Ti Hk nc, and Miss Ludisca Marshall, daughter of. Capt, J. W. Mahail. We stated in last evening's paper that a well known character off the U. P. R II. was expected to make connections at this city if he arrived on the train, and we promised to give full particulars this evening, it is utterly impossible for us to do so ; but we must, allow each one to figure out the "particulars" to suit them selves, after staling the simp'e fact that the train did arrive, and that it was soon ascertained that Hays was on it. Superintendent Mallory was in the city to-day. We learn from him that about 300 Chinamen went east this morning on the B. k M. R. R. They were going to Kentucky.
