It is amusing to watch the scrambling

way, is a very good, citizen of the
town, bit unknown to oSicer Williams),
and his friends felc aggrieved and
had Williams brought before Ilis Honor,
Judge Child, on a charge of Ax.-ault

prisoner rouedily while making the arrest.
V.'heu the time for examination arrived,

and the Judge gave an une-Iucial talk tu

the fact that citizens did not, at-ai! tics,
pay proper heed to the police officers,

oilicer V"i!!iams, yet we are of opinion
that he will prove an excellent officer;
and that if citizens will answer him civ
iliy when accosted by him at an unrea
sonable hour of night, and their ttoriea
hang togc'.her, they will have no reason
to complain of mistreatment from him.
It in u-t be remembered that Mr. Wil-

place, and often does not know a peacea
ble citizen from one wh has evil iuU.-nt,
especially -when he meets them at a late
hour of night." We need ju.-t such posi

the police force of this city, and
then one feels safe in passing through
