We learn that a new agricultural so
ciety of some kind is being organized at
Ashland. We did not ascertain the par
ticulars, but think the "bachelors" are
mixed up with it in some way. We re

At the meeting of the Bepublican
State Committee last Wednesday it was
decided to hold the next State Conven
tion at Lincoln, on Wednesday the 10th
day of August, and the apportionment
for representation was based upen the
Bepublican vote for President in 1868.
The call, embracing the representation
to which each county is entitled, will ap
pear as soon as we get an t ffieial list of
the organized counties of the Sta'e.
A countryman entered a doctor's office
in the city, and taking a "level tumbler
full of alcohol," which he mistook for
whiskey, drank it down at one gulp, then
turned and walked out. An hour after
waid, wh le the doctor was expecting a
summon to view the body of the rash
countryman, in walked that individual.
"Doctor," said he, "can't you srar' me
another tumblerful ? Its the most satis
fyingest I ever drunk."
Mr. Azro Smith laid us under obliga
tions to-day, by presenting us with some
of the finest lettuce and radishes it has
ever been our good fortune to sec. One
head of the lettuce alone weighed half
a pound. There is no country like Ne
braska for nature's products, and Mr.
Smith excel in their cultivation.

Fitzgerald has a large force at work
grading on Pearl and Granite streets. A
good road to the lower landing will soon
be completed.
Vivian & Palmer are shipping 3,000
bushels of corn.
Chicago newspapers are excluded from
the Ohio Penitentiary. The Warden
endorsed on one recently sent there th s
following: "This paper is not admitted
into the Ohio Penitentiary. The man
to whom it is addressed is here for the
murder of his wife, and do not wish to
have him further corrupted byany such
publication as this. Please discontinue
it." We presume it was Democratic.
Hesser's Green llou.-:e plants are all
the rage now. Omaha, Council Bluffs,
Nebraska City, Lincoln, Ashland and
Fremont, all draw from it, and every
body says h's plants are superior to any
thing in the we.-t. He filled a $50 order
